Yep agree. I've lived in several European countries and the facilities at highway service stations are on multiple levels above anything in the UK for haulage vehicles. Long term investment and a very well respected industry compared to the continuing short termism for everything in UK, especially short term profit.

God knows why some many immigrants want to come here.

They should just talk to you.....where would you send them considering Blighty is so terrible?

I realise that it’s a lot of effort to make to actually read beyond the first paragraph of the article. Especially when you just got very exited by the headline. Should you take the time read the whole article you will see that the empty Carrefour shelves are the direct result of a strike at the distribution centre.
"In the meantime, Carrefour shops across Belgium are still experiencing issues following a strike at the Logistics Nivelles distribution centre at the start of the week”.
No correction with truck drivers.

Fair enough.

However, the point that the obsession with Brexit that remainers have over temporary supply issues is little more than a cope compared to the huge damage that's been done to the economy....both ours and the west by the covid response.

That's behind the economic 'drivers'...so to speak....far more than Brexit.

I agree that Covid has caused massive damage to the global economy. Some countries appear to have coped far better than others. It appears, however, that this crisis is coming to an end. As the government has been saying, many of the problems we are experiencing are the result of post Covid economic activity starting up all at once. Restaurants, abortoirs, etc all unable to find staff.
Brexit will likely cause similar damage to Covid but only to the UK and not just for two years. It has already caused some short term damage but I think that it will take five years to see the full extent of it. Perhaps then we will be able to confidently make a comparison with the UK economy and comparable countries inside the EU? Of course those that are invested in Brexit will never be willing to ascribe anything negative to it.
I think that it is very important that those who voted to leave are not blamed for any future adversity. It’s not their fault. I would be overjoyed to see clear evidence that the UK is thriving outside of the EU. Nothing yet, I will just have to wait. I thnk Rees-Mogg said I might have to wait fifty years, which conveniently is probably after both he and I will be dead.

Most immigrants who come into Europe don't come to the UK, they go and live in one of the other 43 or so countries. You need to read the media of several other European countries rather than just look at the situation through a one eyed UK perspective. Europe is far, far bigger than the UK in many aspects.

Apparently as many as 4% think brexit is going very well.

There is no accounting for taste.

They have now said that you can come now and stay until the end of March- at least 300 can, thats 6 months in my book, it might have more chance of attracting people but will probably be a year by next week as this crisis grows! I might tune in to the Farage show on gb news when thats announced, even for the 6 month announcement.
