I was out with an Albanian the other night who was absolutely scathing of the UK work ethic.

Whilst British kids are out pretending to be weekend millionaires, buying bottles of prosecco with sparklers at £500 a table bars whilst wearing design brands, driving hire purchase cars, going to Ibiza twice a year/travelling, and shoving things up their nose. There counterparts from other European countries are sticking to Weatherspoon's and saving up.

After f*cking themselves up so much every weekend then squandering their future it's no wonder they have a mental health crisis when they hit 30 and have nothing to show but blurred memories and a pretentious Instagram story.

Yeah, I can imagine , the house of cards is ready to fall down, its already happening with the housing crisis, lots of these instagram youngsters are living for now, on credit, taking pics to post, with no chance of leaving the family home. Nothing wrong in that, but the apartment dream they see on towie or other tv is not obtainable for most, try buying a new apartment with a zero hour contract job and a 2 % deposit!

I heard one UK HGV driver/Manager on the radio today. He says the pay is poor and he spends all week away from home, only getting back for part of Saturday and Sunday.
He said Eastern Europeans loved the HGV work and now there's a shortage as they had to go home. "It was well known BP were the lowest paying company for drivers, so when the fuel shortage hit, it was them that took the biggest hit"

So yes, it seemed the UK was attracting a lot of East European drivers, but the pay/conditions don't make it a likely career option for many in the UK.

The HGV joke is that they'd get more pay stacking shelves in Tesco's (and more time at home too).

How long before the UK starts getting UN food parcels,.. (obviously dropped by air)

No way, this was the CONservatives master plan about 11 years ago, careful planning by a cunning party, not showing their cards to anyone, stir up a vote, win it, have months/years of turbulance in the country, cancel christmas, shortages of everything from fuel to food, carers to bar staff, fruit pickers to doctors! But, for a while, worker bees wages will have to increase, until they can go back to slave wages, which is bound to happen. Train up enough drivers, straight from school, they will soon out supply the demand, then the zero hours contracts can come out, a CON invention! Strange way to raise wages for the workers, when a half hour meeting with the union rep would suffice, but hey ho, in bunter we trust!

With the reported 'need' for 5,000 extra overseas skilled/qualified drivers, i see only 127 have 'applied' for the visa. How many of those will actually be eligible to actually work in the UK?

One of the reasons I voted Brexit was for shocks to the system. One of them was cheap labour imported without a care of the effects. The other was to get all parties to move focus on manufacturing and how we can prosper with the products wanted abroad. The former is going to happen. So suck it up.
