I see what you’re saying but firstly I’m not sure my 12 year old lad would fully appreciate my bold attempt at boycotting the refreshments when he’s craving a drink or a chocolate bar at half time and secondly I genuinely believe that for me and others publicising our negative experiences on a forum such as this that it will have more impact than a dozen or so people taking an individual stand and not buying their regular half time beverage or snack.

I'm astonished that you think "publicising our negative experiences" on here will make a jot of difference. The board don't give a toss about the fans as long as we keep paying up - just consider the (ongoing) chaos over season tickets. As I said a few weeks ago, as soon as it's ticket renewal time, we'll be receiving smarmy letters about "our wonderful fans". But stop patronising the catering outlets and something may be done.

And goodness knows how much pay - or training - the serving staff get. A few years ago I ordered a white coffee, to be asked whether I wanted milk in it. Next time I decided to make myself clear by ordering a coffee with milk, and was asked whether I wanted it black or white!

If your son craves a chocolate bar, take one for him. As for drink, I frequently take a small flask of coffee (it could be squash), and have never had any trouble from a steward.

Let us know how you get on. Last two times I tried, I got no reply. In fairness though, the Box Office has always been prompt and helpful. Just the club itself seems to have no interest in fans' opinions.

I will post on this thread what response I get.

Daneagles Fish & Chip shop in Whitehorse Lane is excellent for a pre match meal or snack.May not be the cheapest place near the ground but a good choice on the menu. The chips by the way are excellent, well worth a punt.

I cherry picked this from the minutes of CPST meeting with the club on 6th Oct

Food and drink outlets and provision.

While the Trust appreciated that, in the current market, that there may be problems with supplies of food and drink to the Stadium for match days this must be known in advance. Therefore, information could be provided to fans beforehand so that they could make alternative arrangements. In these areas the rules, not allowing food to be brought into the ground, could be relaxed. It is unfair to ask fans to arrive early only to find drinks and refreshments normally expected are not available.

A new catering manager was in place and indicated that although some suppliers were suffering difficulties the Club had over ordered and the Club indicated that there should be no shortages of food or drink in the future and that food should be readily available when gates are opened. They would welcome reports of any specific problems, even using the match day text number. The Trust welcomed the fact that some bars were at last pre-pouring beer.

I would welcome inviting a couple of trust people plus the catering manager to join me pre next match in the Arthur. I will treat them to their choice of food and beverage and await their reaction. If you guys read this message me.

i am a GM at a large catering site and understand this inside out.

food at football stadiums really only serves one purpose, which is to soak up beer, the clubs work on the fact people will pay silly prices for what is essentially a s*** pasty/pie you could buy for 50% of the price outside the stadium…mainly because the consumer just shrugs off the price & quality and accepts it for what it is.

i was at the NIA arena in birmingham on thursday night and paid £8.(f***ing)80 for a filled flatbread, which pains me, however, at least it was nice which softened the blow somewhat.

when i go to watch my local non-league team rugby town play, they have it right…chip butty for £2. there is absolutely no reason any large football club couldnt do that and still make the same GP they do on pies & pasties, in fact they would probably make more GP on that than the pies/pastie.

the clubs do a “dirtburger” including bacon & cheese for 75p cost price, or a s/f chicken burger with mayo & lettuce for £1 cost price. they would also buy the pasties for approx 90p each, they would be able to buy chips for 40p a portion

if a club really wanted to produce a really good quality homemade beef burger or southern fried chicken burger & chips for £5 they could easily do this and make a great GP, the customer would also be impressed and would buy again.

its basically a case of the club being complacent & the customer being lazy.

and on the prices of pints…regardless of the fact they only open on average twice a month the club could easily knock out a decent pint of lager/beer at £4 a pint and still mop up nicely.

i havnt been to selhurst post-covid yet but i cant imagine its not got better since then…all it takes is somebody with progressive thinking running the catering/bars and they could take so, so much more money.
