However, I agree that it is possible to be both British and anti-EU, even though I believe that to be misguided, short-sighted and regressive. Not everyone can see beyond the end of their prejudice.

Frankly, such a perspective is lost on me. Going back on/ignoring international treaties that Johnson and Frost both negotiated and championed as outstanding, giving a nod to militants in NI to stir up trouble, creating quite unnecessary tensions with France over fishing and then, of course, the debacle in the Channel.

Of course, its politically expedient to keep a running battle with the EU. Johnson got elected on just that basis and indeed his whole conversion to the Leave cause was associated with political opportunism. He was never known previously, despite his years in Brussels as an inaccurate journalist, to have expressed any strong views on the matter.

That's the nature of the British PM and his henchman Frost that the EU are dealing with. Untrustworthy, not serious and quite willing in their own interests to keep the issue running and running. All the while, of course, the true costs of this whole scenario are starting to play out for UK citizens to witness and pay for.

If you believe I am superior to you, who am I to argue? I have no interest in such ideas. Nor, for that matter, in any of yours, which seem facile at best.

I don't fawn over anyone, or anything. I respect some, and disrespect others. I see many faults in the way the EU operates, but on balance believe we need to be a member who tries to steer its direction from the inside. Indeed, we never took an active enough role in this regard. We needed to be much more fully committed in the past, rather than always chirping on the sidelines.
