People here have short memories - some of you have made your minds up that Wilf should go and that has affected how you watch the games.
Yesterday he wasn't as brilliant as we know he can be BUT he still had a decent game compared to everyone else- 7 out of 10.
Gallagher also played well BUT wasn't as fantastic as people want to think - 8 out of 10 not 10 out of 10 the way some have described it.
Kouyate MUST go - can't pass to a team mate even when no opposition near him.
Andersen who is a great signing probably had a 5 out of 10 game so why pick on Wilf ?
Be patient and Wilf will still have a very good season.

Look stop projecting that folks want Wilf to go, when the REAL short memories here is that Wilf himself wants to go and has repeatedly spoken of his desire to do so on multiple occasions. He put in a transfer request only 2 years ago:

[Link]

And clearly this desire hasn't waivered since then hence Parish's comments early this Summer of what a potential transfer could look like:

[Link]

So it's only natural for there to be detailed scrutiny on his performances each game as folks don't know if his heart is truly in it, especially given how tempermental he is which makes him prone to wearing his heart on his sleeve.

But in terms of performance I thought Zaha had a much better second half but was above average at best. To have an objective assessment of performances, WhoScored ranked Palace players as the following out of 10:

1. Gallagher 8.84
2. Benteke 8.24
3. Ayew 7.70
4. McArthur 7.10
5. Kouyate 6.89
6. Ward 6.64
7. Mitchell 6.63
8. Guaita, Guehi, Zaha 6.54
11. Anderson 6.53

[Link]

BBC had Zaha lowly ranked with only Guaita and Ayew worse:

[Link]

Evening Standard however did give Zaha 7/10 alongside McArthur with Gallagher highest with 8/10:

[Link]

So somewhere along the lines of 6-7 out of 10 seems a fair assessment to his performance yesterday I would say is a balanced view.

People are forgetting that Zaha has done great considering the quality of players he had with him.

If you put Zaha in another side with better players e.g. AC Milan he would obviously play a lot more better.

Palace can get the best of him by signing a few other quality players so they aren't reliant on one player.

Olise could be a good signing. Eze of course might take a while to get settled due to the nature of his injury.

If Palace also signed players like Matheus Pereira (before July) and Odsonne Edouard you would also see more goals and assists every week from Zaha. As Pereira would have been a great signing and has a lot of creativity and proven in the EPL. Edouard would also be a decent acquisition.

Edouard, Nketiah or another striker could still be possible.

Gallagher will definitely help can defend and great going forward. Palace are still missing another creative midfielder, another winger potentially and striker of course.

tbf if theres nothing ahead of him or 2/3 marking him he is better to go forward than run into a blind alley.

maybe in his youth he woule just try and take on the entire team but maturity has taught him retaining possession is more valuable

We have Zaha. Yes we do. It's just occurred to me that the transfer window has come and gone and Wilf is still with us. In the past, as closing day approached, we'd be nervously waiting to see he'd stay or go. Not so much this time. I'm not sure if any other club even made any overtures in his direction.

I am pleased he has remained with Palace, with one reservation, that he gives his all this season. With lots of exciting new players around him, and a new coach/manager, hopefully this may lift his spirits.

He needs to re-learn his game. Perhaps the new coaching staff can show him the way.

It’s better than a move. He’s surrounded with new young stars and a world star player as manager. Most speak french and English AND he’s still got the Palace faithful who keep reminding everyone He’s just too good for you. So Wilf you are at a career changing time. Live up to the song and take us into Europe.

New coaching, better players around him, pressure off. Teams don't run the tactic - take out Wilf, take out Palace. He's not that important any more.

Once his ego gets over that, I sincerely hope he can start to enjoy himself and we will see a new Zaha.

Interesting that Mark Bright is talking about Wilf to Newcastle making sense: [Link]

Given Bright has Parish's ear this might mean there's something in this. From Wilf's perspective it might be his only real chance (albeit an outside one) of winning a major trophy before he retires.

Vieira seems to have put a bit of fire back in Zaha's belly, but at the same time he also seems to have created a team that with a bit more investment might survive Wilf leaving. Personally I hate what has happened at Newcastle and think it would be sad to see Wilf end up there, but from the club's perspective it might be able to milk far more money from any deal than it might have expected at this stage.

With Palace new strategy of high intensity youth it might be a sensible time to let Wilf go. He is performing well and having less tantrums. By the time his contract is up he will be nudging 30. Would he want to drop his earnings like all the other out of contract players had to do? Unlikely. January window will be interesting. It may well be his last chance to join a bigger club that is going to become a huge club. Good luck to him. I can see the logic.

Do you really think he is performing well? To me he seems to have lost some pace, is reluctant to take people on and frequently misplaces passes. So much so that I am wondering if he is carrying an injury and needs some time on the bench.

Newcastle feels like a very real option. They are going to buy, but they won’t be able to attract top top talent, so someone like Zaha (a top half, but not top 4 player) would fit the mould and help them progress.

Meanwhile, whilst I love him, his powers are dropping and if we can get good money for him that we can use to pick up another couple of starlets it could be a good deal for all. And with our current style we are not as dependent on him as we once were.

Its still not the CL football he wants, but its not out of the question that they could get there within a couple of years. City did it in 3 or 4 I think.

I've said on here a few times now, that as much as I was a big fan, his days are numbered. He's definitely improved since PV has worked on him, but if Newcastle really are interested, then we should get as much money as we can for him and use it wisely to buy new, young talent. Preferably Gallagher.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
