If a foreign national, I assume he was here on holiday as surely he wouldn't be someone seeking refuge in our welcoming country...what we need is for people to 'sponsor' individual asylum seekers (preferably high profile sponsors). Any crime committed by the asylum seeker then reflects onto the sponsor too; murder sentence for both, shoplifting fine for both etc. etc. Yes, I know it would never happen but it might make the 'welcome all' brigade think twice about what they want for the rest of us.

The murder is abhorrent and my thoughts are with his family, but are the last two comments really necessary today of all days?

More so when one remembers the murder of Jo Cox.

Absolutely appalling. This is now two elected MPs who have been murdered in a short time.

What has happened to this country?

It is truly appalling. From the various tributes I have heard he sounds he was a genuine guy, doing his best for people and respected by all. I suspect that politically we would not have been on the same page but that we could have had a decent conversation, without rancour.

This doesn't feel as if it could be the action of anyone who is in their right mind.

It will be instructive to know whether this was motivated by hatred generated, or amplified, by internet conspiracy theories. If that proves to be the case, it ought to strengthen the argument for increased moderation.

Nevertheless, until we know more about his murderer, I think it's wise to avoid too much speculation about the motivation.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

I think in terms of security the rules of the game will change.

people with a longstanding connection to this country will be familiar with the mud-slinging between the various political parties. And all the political tribalism. And the BBC's love of throwing shyte at Tories in general and Brexiteers in particular.

the fella who did the stabbing ? his familiarity with UK politics ? not so sure...

Imagine if you landed in, say, Tokyo or Peru and you started smarting against its political establishment ?

You are speculating. Best to wait until a full picture emerges, which might not be until after the trial. Newspaper speculation based on assumption and prejudice is rarely informative.

Now is not the time for attempts to score cheap hits or gain some moral high ground.

Today a public servant went to work and will never come back. He was just doing his job. Let's forget politics for a while and just agree no one should be murdered just for doing a job serving all of us.

It seems like PV had been holding his breath since the attack was first announced hoping that he could make some political gain. When the first snippet of news was released he started to dance on Amess's grave in celebration.

''Five kids lost a dad'' is one of my earliest comments.

It's such a shame, being that there is already a certain distance between politicians and the electorate, that holding surgeries is going to become a Fort Knox type affair now. Who can blame politicians for feeling unsafe now though all things considered?

Whether Cox or Amess, there will be many of the same dysfunctional and malignant thought processes at play in those who took them out. Until someone acts though, beyond pointing out that they're mentally going off the rails there are limits to what you can do. Sadly fanatical types will always find a way every now and again. Horrendous for the family.. and the country.

This is IMHO a totally inappropriate comment.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.
