How sad/outrageous that these swimmers have missed out on so much glory because of drug cheats.

The East Germans were drugs cheats? Well I never. It only took the Olympics 40 years to notice.

Kathy Cook must be one of the most cheated athletes.

I never watched 1 minute of the Tokyo Olympics just fed up with the cheats.

Weirdly the BMX and skateboarding events were some of the most intriguing and watchable, and at least with very skill based events like these drugs are probably less of a factor.

The Olympics is less about who is cheating and more about who is stupid enough to get caught.

What amuses me is how everyone always did it by accident.

There is something disturbing about the mentality of athletes who want to win at all costs.

In certain events if you don't cheat you don't get to the final.

Top level sport is awash with performance enhancing drugs and that's something we have all known for quite some time now.

I can see how it can happen though. It's their livelihood, and the difference between being say 5th best and 1st is a different world in terms of finances and perception.

In that position it would become very easy to convince yourself (and I doubt you'd be wrong!) that several of your competitors are doing all they can in either bending or breaking the rules to gain an advantage.

That said I wouldn't want to sweepingly point the finger at all athletes. Some of the more technical events are probably largely clean. Sprinting, not so much.
