There is some naivety from PV here which needs to get nipped in the bud.

It’s strange that he is showing this lack of nous as he has been in and around the premier league for a long old time.

Kouyate is a poor passer of the ball and he doesn’t really help to defend a lead in that regard,. We barely touched the ball for the last 10 minutes and just invited a poor Arsenal side to pepper us. Also bringing another defender on for a striker is bound to have us sit deeper.

Maybe under Wenger years ago this stuff worked but it’s now cost us 4 points.

We are playing far better football than I have seen in a very, very long time, but the nous level needs to go up.

I won’t be watching next time we are defending a lead in the 95th minute, don’t think I can stomach it.

Well, you could say that subbing Luka for Kouyate was replacing one poor passer for another.

The game turned on the Tompkins substitution. We stopped doing the things that had worked well up to that point.

You are absolutely 100% right. Kouyate is sloppy and easily loses the ball in dangerous positions. Would have liked Hughes on for the last ten-15 minutes, we were much too deep and it was bound to happen. But, what a great performance - wonder if Roy Hodgson is ever watching our games this season?

Kouyate is the worst player in the squad; can't pass, can't run, can't head = a mediocre player who likes the idea of being a player but doesn't have the skill level to be one. It's telling that he was a permanent fixture under Hodgson but now gets a bit part in games where he offers nothing.
Happy with our progress so far under PV, the results will come.

We are moving in the right direction and it is a work in progress and it is great to watch and individually the players have been able to show their talents under PV.
However -
We cannot continue to concede the way that we have in the last three games - especially against Brighton and last night - we have to play to the end.
We will not always play as well as we have been for a variety of reasons from injury to suspension and the fact we are not always going to be allowed to play with freedom.
Decisions from PV like last night have to stop - schoolboy error - when on top go for the jugular don't back off.
Finally - we only have 8 points regardless of who we have played - we might deserve to have more but we haven't - as they say in golf - there are no pictures on the scorecard - it is about results and right now a few bad games will see us near the bottom of the table.
I believe that we will be fine but we need to win when we should and make a habit of it.

Spot on, we were cruising until the formation change

Best thing about tonight was seeing Vieira down on his knees at the end bashing the ground. Shows his competitive spirit. In other words he is expecting us to win at Arsenal with two of our best players out. Shows just how far we have come under him in 8 matches. Plus our football is a joy to watch. Even Gary Neville was waxing lyrical about us. PV what a find.

Agree with all this. Beyond the emotional gut wrenching injury time concession on another day:
1. The Tierney crossbar shot would have gone in
2. McArthur would have been sent off
Every game has its mini dramas
For me the biggest win from last night is finally having a team who can play football, create chances and look threatening without Wilf. First time ever in our recent history

All things being equal we should get another 19 points before January which could leave us on 27 points after 20 games which would mean we would look very comfortable going in to the new year.
Anything can happen of course but fingers crossed!

Great performance but we were asking for it towards the end.

Like another has said :

McArthur gets sent off another day
Tierney's strike goes in
Lacazette score the one the VG tips round the post

We were superb and controlled large parts of the game, if not all of it but I don't think we were a huge goal threat at times.

Tomkins and Kouyate invited pressure but it highlights that although our squad has much improved, we still lack a body or two to replace like for like.

Another day we win, but another day we go down to 10 men and get beaten comfortably.

Vieira made a few poor subs but I can see how we have changed and I love watching us.

I can't wait for Newcastle but we really need to start putting teams away...

Talking of moving in the "right direction", I have, in one of my many idle moments, made a couple of comparisons with last season.

Firstly, I have compared our results of this season to the same fixtures last season (I have taken Brentford out of the equation as they weren't in the PL last year).

So in those 7 matches played so far we have gained 7pts, compared to 5pts last season - the difference being the winning against Spurs as opposed to drawing. Otherwise, the outcome of the matches have been the same this season as last ( not score-wise but point-wise). Goals for and against this season 10-13 , last season 4-10. So we have scored more but conceded more in 21/22.

Secondly, if we compare points gained in the first 8 games of 21/22 to 20/21 we see that we currently have 8pts compared to 13pts at the same stage last year. Last season saw us win 4 of our first 8 as opposed to a single win this season. Last season we had lost 3 games by this stage as opposed to 2 this season.

I appreciate this doesn't necessarily mean a lot as you have to consider the strength of the teams being played. We have had some challenging fixtures to date - although in the same period last year we did face Chelsea, Man Utd and Everton. However, those 13 pts provided a good foundation for a season where we never became embroiled in a relegation battle.

Of course, but for those last second goals conceded against Brighton and Arsenal, we would be sitting happily on 12 points instead of 8. Let's hope those dropped point don't prove costly.
