Will Arsenal come in for Vieira after Arteta?

I'm sure it didn't escape your notice that, following us outplaying Arsenal on Monday, there was somewhat of a media narrative about "Have Arsenal got the right ex-player in charge?". I think Piers Morgan even Tweeted it. Should we be anticipating Arsenal trying to lure Vieira as soon as they sack Arteta, whether that's this season or next? If so is it inevitable that he'd want to jump ship? We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

I doubt it. I guess it would depend on when Arteta was sacked and what Viera had achieved with us at that point. I don't think there is any danger of Viera going to Arsenal should Arteta be fired in the next few months. The bald facts are that we have one won game in eight and at this point I can't see Arsenal seeing Viera as the must have next manager. Should we go on an impressive run and finish in the top 8 at the end of the season, with Arteta still clinging on at an Arsenal that have finished outside the top 4 then possibly.

True but our performances have certainly been better than the wins and points suggest, especially given how difficult our run has been. I mean if we'd seen out those two games we'd be in the top half and just a few points off the Champions League places. I think it's fair to assume that once Eze and Zaha are back and Olise is ready to start games, we should start converting some draws into wins. There is a danger in giving ex-players the manager's job too early. Both Lampard and Arteta are recent cases in point. Whilst Vieira will almost certainly want to manage Arsenal one day, I reckon he will want to prove himself with Palace first. He has an exciting project with us. Furthermore, there's not the pressure for instant results that he'd face if he moved to Arsenal to replace Arteta this season.

Whilst Vieira will almost certainly want to manage Arsenal one day, I reckon he will want to prove himself with Palace first. He has an exciting project with us. Furthermore, there's not the pressure for instant results that he'd face if he moved to Arsenal to replace Arteta this season.

Realistically Vieira needs a couple of years in the prem to prove his worth for a top team. Not that Arsenal are that any more.

He won't go for at least a year because they will want to see whether he really is a good coach, and he's yet to prove that. If he does well for us, we'll benefit and should this talk become reality he'll leave us in a strong position to tempt an experienced replacement. Personally, I'm hoping he's a great success here and that he sees out his 3 year contract. And also that we'll finish above Arsenal! I would say it's inevitable that if Arsenal come looking for him, he will want the job. But it's all down to timing.
Bit like the talk of Gerrard going to Liverpool.

He won't go for at least a year because they will want to see whether he really is a good coach, and he's yet to prove that. If he does well for us, we'll benefit and should this talk become reality he'll leave us in a strong position to tempt an experienced replacement.

Personally, I'm hoping he's a great success here and that he sees out his 3 year contract.

And also that we'll finish above Arsenal!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Thankfully he's only got a 12.5% win rate. Steve Bruce was nearer 65% during his time with us. He'd be a better option.

I think football gets the loyalty it deserves. Newcastle will be lucky to recruit a manager to develope a project. I think they'll get a "holding" manager. Back to P.V. I have been so happily surprised at his managerial aura. He was our reported 3rd or 4th choice. I wonder how he felt about that.I am so grateful to Steve Parish for the loyalty he's shown to his club,staff and fans. Sticking with Roy was inspired and promoted a feeling of loyalty that PV must have absorbed.Call me naive but feel that PV will be aware of that loyalty and buy into it,at least for the medium term.If we continue our playing progress this year, I can see a promising next season which would entice any new Premier League manager. Patrick Viera needs to prove himself, I'd love him to do that with us and stay with us for that little bit longer.
