It is really only what capitalism has always been.

Paterson is finding it 'intolerable' well so do we.

Odd his wife's suicide, she had everything it seemed.

Perhaps she had been following your posts?

It would be churlish of me to not acknowledge that there is some truth in that.

But ultimately the problem is that we want democracy on the cheap. We should be paying our MP's a LOT more money and drive cancers like lobbying and so on, out of the system altogether. Ditto with the financial influences of Trade Unions and the like.

And introduce legislation that forbids MP's from leaving Parliament and going straight into jobs for any company that benefits from Government spending for say a period of 5 years.

Human nature being what it is you are never going to completely drive corruption out of the system but there are a lot of steps that could be taken now to minimise it. Lobbying is killing our democracy. As simple as that.

I have always had great respect for your political knowledge Matov, and this reply only helps to cement that. I tip my hat to you, sir!

It makes a change, and is a pleasure, to agree with you.

I have long believed that lobbying is a cancer at the heart of our politics which needs to be cut out. Likewise, the involvement of Trade Unions, and business organisations, in the funding of political parties. I want our representatives to represent us, free of any other considerations.

Removing the lobbying does though present problems. We want our representatives to be fully informed and have access to experts. They need to be able to discover the negatives as well as the positives. Requiring companies to co-operate would demand a sea-change in attitude. Do-able though if we really want it.

Dealing with the funding problem ought to be easier, but breaking the link when so many currently depend on it will be like asking Turkeys to vote for Christmas. It's going to take a UKIP style political movement with the same kind of single objective to achieve it. This time, though, count me in!

Sir John Major, says this,...

[Link]

"Former Conservative Prime Minister Sir John Major has criticised the government's handling of Owen Paterson's case as shameful and wrong.
In a BBC interview, he said the actions of Boris Johnson's government had trashed Parliament's reputation at home and abroad, and were "un-Conservative". (BBC website 6 Nov 2021)

I personally have a lot of time for John Major. Not only did he go-a-shagging and not get caught,...but the biggest feather in his cap must be the fact it was Edwina Currie.. Much respect

Haha. It's a shame Spitting Image is only on BritBox now as I can't bring myself to pay for yet another subscription. Then again I doubt it's as good and cutting as it used to be anyway

Meanwhile, the chairman of Parliament's Standards Committee has called on Parliament to approve his committee's report on Owen Paterson's conduct - even though Mr Paterson has resigned as an MP.

I saw it last week and thought it was very poor with obvious lines and weak impressions. The fact there are so many anonymous politicians doesn’t help.

Wanna' peerage?

Got 3 million quid?

Sign up as a temporary tory party treasurer (no need to do anything) and get fitted for your robes and the expenses gravy train.

I would think Paterson is a shoe in for a peerage anyway.

So who wins this arm wrestle? Bryant who is in the right, or the odious Leadsom and her cronies? This is really a battle for the future of hypocrisy and advantage or justice and ethics. Lay your money down folks.

Breaking News "PM sells peerages" The PM being Lloyd George and the year 1922.

Governments have always done this which is disgusting but nothing new.

This is why the House of Lords should be abolished and also the honours system. They cannot be reformed as the establishment will just find away around the new rules so get rid.
