i am a little bit worried about burn out. Were a hundred miles an hour every game, that's fine after 11 games, but come 22,25 games we may well see a slow down in performance and,or points........hope i am way out though.

stuck up here with a load of northern monkeys!

We've got a bigger/better squad this season, so we can rotate the forward line, CBs should be fine, and we've got EE and Olise waiting in the wings for the wings. In theory we have okay central midfield cover, but I think a lot of that will depend on whether Will Hughes is able to be used interchangeably with JMac without losing performance quality.

The main concern then is our full-backs: we have cover at a push, but no-one yet who is guaranteed to maintain the same level. Hopefully Fergusson comes good in time for a decent chunk of the season.

That thought went through my mind also, hopefully we’ll have 40 points by then.

I do have to say the football at the moment is a pleasure too watch. I now look forward to going to a game, unlike some of the previous seasons when it was becoming a chore, I was asking myself why am I doing this.

I do fully expect burnout. McArthur is prime candidate but also Gallagher, Ward and Mitchell.

I can't believe Gallagher can keep this up for a season. Jimmy is just getting on, and he's demanding quite a lot from his full backs (more of Mitchell than Ward tbf)

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Fair point.

Gallagher is a class above anything else we have until you consider Eze hasn't played a minute. I'm also hopeful that Hughes will be a really good buy and be valuable in central mid as the season wears on. Schluppy is a possible asset there too - amazing engine on him.

My guess is that we will see the continuation of what looks like a pattern of one the central mids making way. The fixtures are about to get really hectic and those are the boys who are putting the biggest shift in.

Gallagher Macca Eze Schlupp Hughes - seems a decent set to have there.

I do remember the team of the '80's, and what an exciting time it was. But it was all too short.

The difference today is that I feel that the progress is being managed with the future in mind.

You might also consider that the current team comprises the best players we've ever had...

CG, WZ, EE, with Olisé, Joel and OE not far behind.

Whereas other outstanding players of the past (in my mind) include Kenny Sansom, Don Rogers, Nigel Martyn, AJ.
But they never played together.

So yes, I agree, these are the most exciting times and long may it last.

And now, when you tell someone that you support the Palace, people no longer respond with the question 'Why'?

In Ireland I get this quite alot since most people around are Liverpool celtic or utd fans, but I always seem to get a message from them saying good result when we beat a big team like against City

Some of the football we played in the early part of 1979-80 was "cracking", but it did fall away rather rapidly. Maybe it's slightly too early to make the "best-ever" judgement, but the current standard of play is pretty damned good.

Agreed, we did play some lovely football during the promotion season 78/79, and the first half of 79/80.

I think that's the only time I can remember, prior to now, where we played classy football on a consistent basis.

Since getting promotion to the PL in 2013 I have constantly bemoaned our seeming inability to string more than a few passes together. Yes we survived and I fully appreciate that, but it was very frustrating to watch.

Although I think we have a decent side this season, I'm not sure it's our best ever.

The team that finished third and got to the cup final first time around may be better. A few names off the top of my head without googling:

Martyn
Salako
Wright
Bright
Gray
Thomas
Thorn
Pemberton
O'Reilly
Pardew
Barber

I'm sure I've forgotten a couple.

I think if you watched old footage of games from back then you'd probably find the skill level wasn't on the same level as now. Obviously finishing 3rd was a fantastic achievement and if we are talking about success alone, then we haven't matched that since.

However, there is a now a greater level of quality and technical skill in top flight football. We had some very good players back then but I do I think our current team would beat the early 90s side.

Those were certainly the days and we did it with a good number of players from our youth-cup winning teams. That promotion season was one where we didn't expect to get beat (we only lost 4 all season, 2 of them at home). It was mainly a question of would we score the extra goal needed for the win. The style of football, though, was classy for that era, playing it on the deck as much as possible. I'd better stop there before Becky moves this entry to Nostalgia.

If players are unhappy and frustrated then burn out will happen, we can all see the difference with one player in particular who was totally frustrated and unhappy with the players around him resulting in showing his worse side to all of us on the pitch, he had total burn out because he'd lost all interest with the club.

I cannot see any reason at all why we'll see burn out at any time this season.
