It's less the job that gets people goat, and more the fact that he was specifically working against the financial interests of his own country and getting paid handsomely for it. And all of the time using his office and status as an MP to generate vast income for himself. He managed to find 10,700 hours since going into parliament, earning £5.5 million. I wonder how many hours he dedicated to his constituents, assuming they could track him down.

It does appear that almost all MPs with second jobs and the vast majority of the several million swept up by them is from the Conservatives, which was news to me actually, as I'm considered that to be the pushed 'stereotype' rather than the reality. But in any case, any tightening of the rules to put constituents first would strengthen the system as a whole, so hopefully that will happen rather than it blowing over, which would be a green light for it to continue or worsen.

It appears Sir Geoffrey has been renting out his house in Battersea,a 20 minute walk to the houses of parliament, while getting the taxpayer funded London flat to live in, nice!

It's the rules that are allowed.

They can simplify them if they want to but they don't. For example Any MP whose constituency is say outside the M25 (or whatever zone) would be allowed to claim a set living allowance rather than claiming a variable rent. If your constituency was inside the M25 you get nothing.

Simple and they don't have to submit expenses.

If your constituency is inside the M25 but you live outside that's your problem.

Unsurprising. Nice 'work' if you can get it! The guy sounds like self interest personified, but no doubt thinks he's some kind of man of the people.
