Kathleen Stock, a philosophy professor at Sussex University, has resigned her post there after an intense campaign against her by students and some of her colleagues.
Her crimes have been to make such statements as “there are only two sexes” and “it is wrong to put male rapists in women’s prisons”. She also questioned the wisdom of children being given body-altering drugs and operations based on their, quite possibly, transitory inner feelings. According to her critics, this makes her a bigot and a danger to trans students.
Is Stock some right-wing, anti-feminist homophobe ignorant of gender issues?
Actually, she is gay and lives with her wife and two sons from a previous marriage to her ex-husband.

the Western world is now blighted by PC liberal lefties.....putting a warped & twisted slant on reality.

Who cares what other people want to do in the privacy of their own bedrooms (or toilets) ? But stop ramming it down the throat of everybody on my early evening telly.

A group of masked and sinister looking students protested against her on campus (I can't find the picture) as they felt scared because of her views. It would be laughable but it's not and the University of Sussex should be ashamed.

The woman was bullied out of her job not supported by her employer who seemed incapable of identifying and expelling those who ran a hate campaign against her.

The university should be punished / fined.

you know things are getting bad when a lesbian professor is getting it in the neck.

Reminds me of the time Joe Stalin confided to his son that he was fearful of all the murderous purges getting Joe himself.

Leaving aside the horrible unfairness of this case in due course these students will be hitting the job market with their incessant instant outrage, triggering ways and safe space requirements.

Words fail me. As a lefty I read that report and assuming that it is true I have to say that this is plain stupid. Allow the male prisoners into the female prisons but ONLY once they have had the surgical adjustments. Agreed they might not agree to this but hey ho.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

In the long-term I think this is a good thing. Puritanical nuttery only leads to self destruction.

You are dealing with young small minds who are totally guided by emotion and no reason.
They attack anything that doesn't fit with their deluded belief system, and the inevitable slippery slope to implosion can't happen soon enough.

I would not be surprised if this is a former canceller now being cancelled. Karma could have happened as only 20 years ago it was unheard of for gays to be married with children. People back then were cancelled for protesting against it. Funny old world you think!

I wouldn't call it self destruction really, as the fact that she's gay shouldn't come bundled with the idea that it's a given she should acknowledge a myriad of genders. Plenty of gay people (from the Douglas Murrays and the average gay joe public) take as much issue as anyone else with the idea that there are more than two genders. Some understandably view it as an affront to sexual orientation, for it to be claimed that the gender they're attracted to is somehow an artificial construct to begin with. I'd never seek to marginalise someone going through such issues, but seeking to silence contrary views will be about as successful here as it was with Jordan Peterson. As in not very.

Politically and academically there may be efforts to bundle groups together, but that doesn't mean they ultimately have anything to do with each other, as Stocks and others costly sacrifice attests.

From what I read, the University itself supported her, so I don't think they can be blamed.

Intimidating someone for their views is never acceptable.

For what it's worth, I also agree with her. Whilst those going through a genuine identity crisis need support, that support ought not amount to encouragement. It's often the case when an inequality is identified, and corrected, that the pendulum swings too far the other way, before a sensible balance is found.

I hope Ms Stock finds a new post soon, where the students show a greater understanding and tolerance.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

But they didn't stop the masked protests on campus nor have they identified the students doing the bullying. Not sure you can call that supporting her more like weasel words.
