The law's the law, and they went beyond highlighting their cause when they chose to ignore it. I have a level of respect for those willing to serve time for their beliefs (where they are peaceful) but clearly the level of disruption causes to ordinary people did more to get peoples backs up than make people think about the environment.

I respect someone who breaks the law and accepts the consequences as price they have to pay. This lot and many other types of protestors don't want to face the consequences, that I cannot respect.

I hope they all get a padded cell! The government nicked £47 billion under our noses, so they and their friends and family can continue to live a life of luxury for the next hundreds of years- don"t forget 47 billion is 47 thousand million, and these people block roads for insulation! If they blocked roads, bridges, parliament etc, for an investigation in to where the PPE money has gone, I would be standing with them, but house insulation?

Very predictable

Well yes exactly. They disrupted the lives of plenty of ordinary people who likely supported many of the same ideas they hold. If they want to stick it to decision makers that's one thing, but this was an unfortunate approach.

I think 28 days is the norm for contempt, usually judges do not unnecessarily commit to prison.

That would mean, in effect 14 days actual or they may just get released as prisons have enough to handle already, they don't actually need this type of person.

Prisons are usually quite warm as it dulls the senses.

There is no point to prison for this, as apart from the initial shock which wears off very quickly, the result may be negative as the prisoner comes under other inmates influences.

A meaningful fine would have been far more appropriate.

Probably Insulate Britain. I am in favour of insulating UK houses but not necessarily to the extent that they have been carrying it to.
They will never win as the Grenfell commission showed that people and companies can get away literally with murder/killing.

If you think that the Grenfell disaster literally was murder, then you literally don't understand the definition of murder. And we didn't need a Grenfell commission to tell us that people can get away with murder; it's been happening since time began.

I don't. Your statement reminds me of what Wedgwood Benn once said, that his conscience was above the law. I don't think that's right and is similar to those who claim that their God's law is above civil law. It's a slippery slope which leads to many of the problems we see in today's world.

I believe the law applies to everyone, and no-one should break it and accept the consequences. Should they do so, then the consequences are not sufficient. Protest, campaign and argue as much as you wish, but always within the law.

They are very short-sighted people who are actually traitors to their cause.

Making a case for greater insulation, in order to lower the amount of fuel we need to keep as warm, is perfectly sensible. Most of us agree, and so does the government.

Enraging public opinion by causing chaos sends completely the wrong messages and creates negative connotations for a worthy cause.

Stupid!

Agreed I was caught up on M25 during their first protest. Cars/ lorries stopped in traffic jams with engines continually running, does nothing for climate change. Most protesters I have seen interviewed were from Northern and Western England, wonder if they drive to the M25? Idiots who do nothing for a ultimately worthy cause

Exactly, but "murder" fits a narrative.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

They won't mind being glued to the floor of the prison, I'm sure.

I just wish the media would ignore these people who represent no one. Today some of the jailed are claiming they will go on hunger strike.

The thing these people really fear is lack of publicity they have been popping on on TV and radio shows for weeks, if the media ignore them they will soon melt away.
