It wouldn't be difficult to work out which side of the barricades in Cable St people here would be on, or what colour shirt that some might be wearing. Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Alf Garnett was a just political parody, but also both loveable and thought-provoking. If anyone can achieve the same impact, then it's all been worth their while.

Humour bypass? I didn't, and don't, assert that most posters on here would be fascists. You make assumptions. Read it again. My remark was about some, in fact a very small number, but deliberately left open for people to reach their own conclusions. You walked straight in! My MP is great. We get along just fine.

Good heavens, Lord Frost, of all people, says brexit will not work. Not because of his ruinous negotiations of course, but because of 'high taxation'. And the tories recent budget taxes hike will add to brexit and covid woes and put any economic recovery on hold, I think most tories and business think likewise. It looks like anything that will damage us, Johnson will do including the ridiculous saga over 30 fishing licences, as if it could possibly matter. France assumes the EU presidency in January, and with elections due he surely must bash the UK. I hope he will be successful, it is long overdue.

The truth of people like Frost, and the other other hard core Brexiteers like Bill Cash etc, is that they have always wanted to de-regulate, move away from the European social model and create a UK based on a similar model to Singapore.

Macron is going to use France's Presidency of the EU to bash the UK as much as he can to help with domestic elections. The question is will the rest of the EU go along with that or would they prefer to settle it this year before he takes charge. I would have thought that the EU has plenty on it's plate both internationally and domestically to allow this to drag on. It can be resolved easily by just agreeing to a trusted trader scheme where the EU does the occasional spot checks. For those who think the EU holds all the cards I would point out that they need the UK military in Poland and to deal with the Soviet threat in the Ukraine. Is this the time to start playing games when there is a vary serious threat on it's borders?

People move because they are offered an attractive job that is the driver if a big corporation wanted a top scientist they would make it happen the visa would be the least of the worries. Now having said that I do agree with the principle that we need to attract the best and the brightest rather than those who can push their way into this country. So as my teacher always told me "Most try harder".

Emmanuel Macron sells France as EU's post-Brexit powerhouse after sealing €17bn fighter jet deal with UAE. A result for Macron after the submarine snub cast doubts. And Michel Barnier, who many tip as giving him a run for his money in the elections, was defeated and will now not stand. A win double.
