One thing is for certain, CG has shown what we have been missing in midfield since we had Cabaye at his best.

Come the transfer window at season end we need to either secure CG or another player who gets around the pitch at pace and with a decent engine.

Chelsea are indicating that the door is open for Cconnor to return and fight his way into the team. Big risk for him in my opinion. If we end the season in Europe which is possible both Chelsea and Connor may see sense in advancing his learning with us for a further season. In that scenario subject to fitness he will be playing a lot of first team football at the pinnacle of the sport. Potentially it’s a win win for both clubs.

Optimistic!

We're only 11 games in and Chelsea are already indicating that he was a gnat's whisker away from making their squad. There are also signs there that they are rethinking their midfield with RLC and Barkley getting decent minutes and Kante looking ever more a 20 match a season player.

Think our only hope is that Gallagher reckons that he won't get enough minutes. But even if he overcomes his Chelsea ambition and asks to leave then we will be likely priced out. Just don't seen another loan is on the cards.

Tuchel giving more insight on what CG brings to the team...

"‘Also as a teammate I would have loved to play with him, because he’s a helper. He starts in minute one and he finishes maybe in the shower, that’s the earliest minute where he finishes running and stealing balls. So it’s a pleasure to know the guy, to have the guy and I’m super happy it’s worked out so well."

Good enough for Chelsea to want to keep him and good enough to have a career at Chelsea. Least we have the pleasure of having him for a season, bringing more stability to the club and 2 more windows to strengthen.

Connor was ok at West Brom but nothing special. At Palace he has suddenly become a really good quality player. Why? I’m sure the answer is Vierra. PV is emerging as someone with a really special vision of the game. He and his coaches have clearly been the transformers of Connor. He constantly comments on the amazing lead he is getting from PV.
Let’s see how the season plays out. But to see the gelling of our players and improved individual performances indicates to me it may well be wise for CG to stay around.

Maybe the situation that he walked into at West Brom didnt work for him ( I dont know the specifics just surmising) maybe they were looking like relegation candidates so soon in the season that the squad wasnt giving its all & that rubbed off on him -

Also , he is a year older, a year stronger & as you say perhaps the whole PV thing has got him fired up.

Also - he must realise that as a Chelsea player there are only so many loan opportunities provided, during which if you want to have any chance of making their team you do have to shine at one / some of them.

I think Big Sam failed to play to Conor's strengths and had him playing too deep (when he did play him, that is). I seem to recall he played quite well in the early season games under Bilic.

Obviously, Vieira has been a big plus for Conor. Playing under one of the greatest midfielders of all can only inspire surely, especially, if like Conor, you are keen to learn.

Beat me to it.

I've always had a lot of time for Sam but his typical management style would be an unlikely fit for the Gallagher we have seen this season. Right now Palace have the leading pressing stats in the whole division in midfield (guess Liverpool and City see too much of the ball!) and that is where he has shone really and Sam isn't a pressing manager.

Didn't see enough of WBA to comment fully but I suspect he was pretty good there but just in a less showy role. Thought is that there might be other gems out there waiting to be discovered perhaps playing in a role that doesn't show off their full potential.

Seems we will lose CG at the end of the season, if these are to be believed . . .
