The way we played yesterday was rather like watching Palace during Pardew's dying days this time 5 years ago - buoyant and dangerous going forward but hapless at defending. In particular it brought back the 5-4 defeat at Swansea and the 3-3 at Hull.

Burnley v Palace game the BBC rate Edouard as MOTM 9.15 and Olise as the lowest rated player at 6.41 can this right? I was not at the match and highlights on MOTD would suggest this is rubbish (as much as I like Edouard)

Maybe a protest vote he should have played all or a larger part

Seems we are meeting teams with some form at the moment, competing very well in attack but letting ourselves down at the back, particularly at set pieces. At least we know where an area needs to improve as PV said after the game. Next week will be tough as we have 3 games in 8 days. All will be tricky, Villa have a new manager, ManUre possibly as well after OGS departure, and Leeds need to kick start their season. Expect to see Eze play some part and possible other rotations. It's Celtic fans having some fun marking him up. There was some discussion about it on the BBC comments below the match report.

apologies if mentioned already (cbf trawling through first 14 pages). But wasn't there a stamp on Luka by Lowton? Never even gotn VAR'd but it was mentioned on the stream I was watching. Lowton also kicked the ball out from underneat Zaha after he fowled him and then just stood over the top of him goading him on.

Also the yellow card for Benteke was a joke: he literally patted Tarkowski on the top of the head who then proceeded to go down like a sack of spuds holding his head.

Agree also that Anderson was lucky to get away with the blatant pull down on Bruce forsyth.

Yes there was a definite stamp, perhaps Luka should have stayed down and rolled about

Watching again Burnley's late chance in which Guaita did well to get down to and push round, it could easily have gone in and that would have been 4-3. It's one thing to play nice and tidy out from the back football, but when centre halfs cannot defend a basic ball lobbed down the middle then there is a problem. Andersen looks particularly vunerable, and this is not the first time. I would expect there to be a strong focus in training by PV and the coaching staff on this aspect of defending.

Can anyone make a case for Ayew starting on the right, when you have Edouard, Olise, Eze or even Schlupp, O'Neill is a decent player but he's no Mane, Ward and one of the two DMs could cover that problem, let O'Neill worry about helping his LB against one of our better attackers

Aren't we supposed to have Sol Campbell helping out with the coaching?
