Looking about as relevant as Anthony Eden after the Suez Crisis.

time to focus on the managerial career Lionel.

The tv pundit on irish telly is one 'Damien Delaney', ever heard of him ? ..... and Damo explaining that Messi was part of the reason that Barca got smashed 8-0 last year.

Other than setting up PSG's only goal of the game, obviously.

in that game ? Benteke would have scored four or five. Gallagher & zaha would have spanked Citeh.

Old one to respond to, but I'm firmly in the Ronaldo camp over Messi and always have been. He has more to his overall game - i.e. heading, strength, power.

Messi has never played in the worlds best division (Prem). For all we know he could have flopped with the pace and aggression. He's never tested himself against the best, so in my opinion he can't be considered the best. Ronaldo has dominated the top 3 leagues in Europe and still smashing in goals for a rubbish United team at 36.

i had thought Ronaldo to also be crocked by Old Man Time. Until i saw some of his goals in the last couple of months. Pretty impressive in front of goal.
But he doesnt track-back to defend like a younger player....and that is a serious weakness at this level. Better to bring him on as a super-sub to score a winner than depending on him for 95 minutes.

Mo Salah is probably now the best attacking player in the World ?

Yep Palazio, I'd probably agree with you about Salah. He is a pretty impressive little player. I used to think he was a bit of a diver, but he seems to do that less now.

As for Ronaldo, it almost doesn't matter that he drops back less these days because he has saved Man Utd's blushes a few times this season and that's exactly what they're paying him (a huge bundle) to do. Mind you, he's up there with Wilf in the sulking department!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Of course he has - he's played in numerous Champions League and international tournaments and won best player at a World Cup.

His record against English sides is 27 goals in 35 appearances, and that's only playing against the best the Prem has to offer who qualify for Europe.

That's 15 more than any other player has scored against English sides in the Champions League, including Ronaldo, so I think we can be fairly sure he wouldn't flop.

Recent Ronaldo is a bit of a tricky one - he's a complete non-factor in games, and if anything is detrimental to his team in build-up, but he invariably finds a goal in nearly every game.

He's a world class goalscorer, but not much else these days.

Ronaldo is a better all round player than Messi.

Salah is better than them both right now.

Next?

Let’s be honest. The only reason they both play on is money. They are both way past their best.

Most people only do their jobs for money, yes.

Wilf is probably past his best.. should he just stop?

I don’t really get the point.

surely just one calendar-year of those wages is enough to set a fella up for life ?

after a certain financial point, men play for glory. Not money.

Still not a fair comparison to someone who has actually proven themselves in the league, the prem has never been technically the best but has always been the most intense, teams across Europe like bayern, psg, Madrid and barca can rest their squad just for games in Europe, prem teams can't, if Chelsea just turnt up at Norwich they would get beat, in previous years barca and Madrid would win most league games without comming out of 2nd gear.

Messi is the greatest no 10 of all time but I don't see how you can call him a better footballer than Ronaldo, who has more attributes and you'll never see him just walking around looking lost on a pitch. 2 games that stand out are the 2 champions league games against roma and Liverpool, no leadership at all from messi. Ronaldo would do a job anywhere on the pitch, messi would get completely embarrassed playing CB.
