Strange how so many think Hughes is the answer when we havnt yet seen him in a Palace shirt. Has it occured to any of you that he is not as good as Kouyate or Luka and that is why the manager (who sees them all in training every day) has not picked him ?

We haven't seen Hughes play for Palace but we've all seen him play for Watford. In all honesty, even if he has forgotten how to play football, he will be a better option than Luka! Seriously devastating to see Luka in the team again....he is a shadow of his former self and is a complete liability. Way off the pace and gets bossed in midfield which invites pressure onto our defence, has lost the ability to strike a decent ball and his set pieces are abysmal. He has shown very little leadership during games, yet PV seems reluctant to get rid of him. Jimmy Mac deserves the captaincy this year as i'm sure Marc will get it next year.

Yes, it has occurred to me as a possible reason why. Although PV was quoted as saying that WH has been training well. Another concern of mine is what opportunity has he had to get playing time at any level ? Has he played for the U23's ( as Eze has when returning from injury ) ? If not, then he could be thrown into a first team game having not played properly for months. Not the best preparation.

But we have all seen him play for Watford, and is a Macca like player. TBH we are all just desperate not to see Luka and CK again

Someone said it earlier. Guita's one of the reasons we concede goals. He NEVER comes for the ball. Given who we're missing, his terrible distribution means we're far too flat playing out of the back. ......Butland Ward Tompkins Guehi Mitchell Gallagher....Kouyate ....Schlupp Edouard............Zaha

Agreed - I saw a clip of him play in palace training on youtube where they were playing 5 a side. If the video was anything to go on, he isn't worth getting too excited by. Everyone seems to be screaming that he is our answer but as you say there is a reason he isn't starting!

If VG is being selected despite the issues you have with him, the balancing act must be that in the coaching staffs opinions, he still has more to offer overall than Butland. It's been discussed before, but it's not unusual for the outfield players to take prime responsibility for balls played high into the box. At the moment, as a collective, they are not doing that job well enough.
