Radical idea. I'd experiment with Ayew as a replacement for McArthur while he's out. At the moment, Ayew's strength is his defensive effort. He's not as fit as Macca, but he would press more effectively than our other midfielders, except for Gallagher, and it would free Gallagher to play more as he did when paired with Macca.

Sorry but that idea is stupid. Why try and crowbar Ayew into the team? He’s a 30yo forward who isn’t up to it his job which is either scoring or assisting. You’d like to reinvent him as a central midfielder at the expense of a younger, better midfielder like Hughes or Riedewald? If he isn’t performing then he’s dropped. No need to overcomplicate a very simple decision.

Ayew gets all flack for not scoring, but its his close control and ability to win fouls which is why he is played.

Those fouls he draws, buys us recovery time.

In my opinion it's Wilf who should be coming in for the flack, moaning and groaning at the team for not passing to him.
When he does get it he puts his foot on top of the ball, giving defenders time to swarm around him and lose possession.

I would like to know the stats between him and Ayew, as to who is most beneficial on the pitch.

Against Leeds Ayew was hacked down outside their box when on a good promising attack with others around him, if people actually care to look he is constantly fouled because he puts defending plyers under huge pressure, the sad fact is that a free kick is nothing as promising as a run into the enemies penalty box which is what he was attempting to do, also, we nicely forget the penalty that Clatterballs thought was a dive and one that divided everyone watching ...clatterballs just loves to always deny us ...remembering his performance against us in that bloody FA cup final.
Zaha often fails to release the ball when in good positions to do so but to criticise him really is silly when considering the amount of times he kisses the turf.

We have three players in the top ten most fouled ...

As far as I'm concerned he always performs and always will, cannot understand the hate at all.

He plays in a forward position therefore the expectation is he should get goals.

His other contributions to the team get ignored.

PV, Roy, both apparently idiots for continually selecting him.

He cost us pennies and has delivered ever since.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

He is a conundrum???

He wins fouls constantly and relieves the pressure on us consistently.

But he can’t flipping score or be the difference when it matters.

It is a tricky one!

That is the role Hughes should be playing. Thought he should have replaced Schlupp today to get more playing time

Ayew. Tricky one.
PROS: He works hard. He runs at teams. He draws fouls.
CONS: He screws up at key moments. He doesn't pass early.

We have been awful with dead ball situations as a whole for some time, it's not Ayew's fault alone that we fail in this area.

I agree completely. Ayew is comfortable playing centrally as he has played CF and Schlupp ( or Edouard) would be better suited playing on the left with Zaha on the right.

Ayew can tackle and run with the ball but his weakness is decision making and passing accurately

I wonder how many goals and assists he could've had if the opposition hadn't panicked and hacked him down ..exactly the same for Zaha of course.

because he is better than Benteke in all areas

...and like the penalty shout against Villa how many times do the officials do nothing and turn their backs on them resulting in fouls not being registered, this incident could've been viewed very differently from Clattenburg's considering the comments afterwards, VAR is good for picking up the obvious incidents which are missed by the officials on the pitch but it fails miserably with clever niggles and shoves which have always been very difficult to decipher and which are now being perfected because of VAR.
