A good result and all round team performance. Thankfully the good chance they had for the equaliser went begging, that would have been totally undeserved. Good to see Hughes put in a commanding performance, I'd say the chances of Luka getting a full game again have diminished greatly.
Conor Gallagher. Fairly obvious that he is key to the good stuff we do, and we should enjoy it while we can, but should he leave at the end of the season we'll be back to square one. I'm sure the management are on it.
I think the future team is evolving nicely and if we could secure CG then all the better.

Ayew, Hughes and Edouard were excellent although I was not impressed by the two substitutions - neither Schulpp nor Benteke improved the team. Just hope Hughes is not injured.

And, of course, our No.23 was immense and now our top scorer. What a crying shame he is only with us for one season - to my mind he looked a lot better than several in the current Chelsea squad.

We must maintain this form against Southampton and hope we can nullify the Ward-Prowse menace - he will be after Zaha for sure.

Maybe start Eze or Olise instead of Wilf. He is very sensitive at the moment. Ten men would not help.

How about trying Wilf in the middle and Eze/ Olise / Rak Saki on the left?

Not getting carried away. We're three points off eighth after nearly half the season and should have about 6 more points were it not for silly last minute errors.

Only the top four plus Brighton have lost fewer games than us, we're the seventh highest scoring side in the division and frankly it feels like we haven't played close to our full potential yet.

I'm not saying we'll get European qualification but this is undoubtedly our best ever chance and I believe that if we have luck with injuries for the rest of the season and maybe another signing or two in January, we can do it.

Not sure we are ready for it yet. In two seasons if we build the squad and the juniors big up then bring it on. Now we are just a bit thin.

I will take a win like that anytime .
I am not a lover of Ayew but I must admit this first half performance was superb , although he miss yet another chance of a goal . Where was he in the second half , nowhere to be seen . Such a shame after his first half .
All in all a good day at the office .

Funny how we all see things differently. Did you switch off 2 nd half. Ayew was immense all game. Never stopped.

Combined really well with CG all game: the one without the ball consistently runs beyond the one with the ball to 1. get the return, or 2. pull the defender away to let the one with the ball cut inside. I think Olise is a cracking player and love watching him play, but this is what he doesn't do. When he hasn't got the ball he stands still on the touchline next to the player with the ball.

Ayew's little dink over the top for CG was sublime, and CG had more time than he thought and should really have done better. If that had been Bernardo Silva playing the pass, commentators would have oozed superlatives.

Well, that was a big improvement on the Villa performance.

We kept the ball well, especially early in the game, and were patient which isn't easy after losing 3 in a row.

Gallagher will rightly get all the headlines, but what a performance from Jordan Ayew.

Pity not to have kept a clean sheet, and the goal conceded was scruffy. We then went through a spell of giving the ball away too cheaply and too often, and I had visions of tossing that 2 goal lead away.

As for Everton, they are proof that spending big doesn't always equate to success. Difficult to see where they go from here. I was impressed by Pickford's sprinting though, on the occasions he ran half the length of the pitch to get involved with stuff that had nothing to do with him.

Any idea what happened with TM? He didn’t seem injured but completely switched off in the last 20 mins. Thar Gordon break could easily have cost us. So bad that Clyney had to come on a LB.

Think our lack of cover at full back needs to be addressed next month.

A thoroughly enjoyable game and glad to see Vieira restored some calm and bravery on the ball (aside from the last 20 minutes). Having two players in the centre of midfield with energy and passing ability seemed to make all the difference. I'm not going to get too carried away as, aside from Demarai Gray, Everton were poor and looked more like they wanted a fight than a game of football. However, I don't think anyone had a bad game and as others have said Hughes and Ayew were great, albeit Gallagher still probably edged it for MOTM.

He seemed to be holding his hamstring but did still play on for a good amount of time. He eventually asked Ward to let Viera know there was a problem and went off. We may see Clyne on Wednesday night.

A great result and performance from the boys yesterday, especially good to see Will Hughes put in a very good stint on debut.A word of caution though, apart from Spurs I thought the Toffee’s were the worst side we have come up against this season.I know Southampton are on a bad run at the moment but they press well which always seems to give us problems and have been a bogey team for us in the past.We need to keep up the intensity we showed yesterday on Wednesday.
Up the Palace!!

I do agree we need to address cover at left back but I think the issue with Mitchell is not of his making.

If you watch carefully when we attack we change to a back 3 with Tomkins in the middle, Ward on the right, Guehi on the left. Mitchell pushes high up the left touchline almost as a left sided midfielder. This creates an overload on our left, and prevents defenders from doubling up on Zaha without using a central midfielder (which in turn creates space for one of our midfielders)

When we're defending we revert to an orthodox back four.

However this creates issues for Mitchell.

Firstly he needs to expend a lot of energy pushing forward and then dropping back. This might explain why he looked so tired towards the end of yesterdays game.

Secondly it creates a hole behind him, that should be filled by either Geuhi as the left sided central defender or one of the midfield three dropping in. If our attack breaks down and the opposition breaks quickly in transition (as was the case with Gordon yesterday) they can exploit this space. This is not Mitchell's fault. It's a fault of the tactics. It's a risk I think Vieira is prepared to take because of Guehi's recovery pace.

In the case of the Gordon chance, which came from a quick Everton break after one of our attacks, Mitchell (who looked knackered at this stage) was caught up field, Guehi and Kouyate were sucked into defending Townsend and the ball round the corner exposed the space behind Mitchell. On another day we may have conceded but we didn't so you could say the risk was worth taking.

I think this in game flexibility (defending 4-3-3 and attacking 3-4-3) also explains why Ayew is preferred on the right to Olise.

At the moment Ayew offers far greater protection on the right wing by virtue of his work rate and defensive capabilities when we shift to back a 3 when attacking. Ward does not have the recovery pace of Guehi or attacking potential of Mitchell so we need a player to hold down the whole of the right wing almost on their own - something Ayew did really well yesterday. It will be interesting to see what happens when Ferguson is fit and whether this will allow Vieira to play Olise knowing he has Ferguson sat behind him as cover.
