Made it quite surprising to me how we kept playing out from the back when it was evident Southampton couldn't believe their luck.

Ended up arguing with a guy behind me on exactly the same subject. He kept saying, can’t you see what we are trying to do”, without realising that when a team is pressing, bypassing the pressing players turns defence into attack, not passing it back and back and back until the keeper ends up hoofing it or we lose possession.

Put ourselves under way too much pressure tonight because we played into their hands. Kouyate was out of position and can only play central defensive midfielder not where he was tonight. Gallagher was tired without a doubt and Eze should have come on to replace him.

Still a work in progress without doubt, some good, a lot of bad. Still if we reach 19 games with say 23/24 points I’d be reasonably happy

Saints are a bit of a bogey team at home so 1 point keeps them away from us. Decent show, respect the point as bfs said.
Would take jwp though if available. Prob out of our price range but a good if not excellent player.

Shows the importance of Anderson for how we want to play. He can fizz passes out from the back that bypasses the press. Without him we either play aimless balls up the wings or Tomkins plays lazy, lofted clearances that puts them on the attack.

There’s a reason Anderson was made Fulham captain after about 10 games.

If we reach 19 games with 24 points I’d be delighted! That would mean we beat Watford and drew with Spurs or vice Verda. Both away from home!

Looks like Vieira is a very cautious guy when it comes to introducing new or injured players. Hughes is a case in point. Arguably our best player tonight. Eze probably wisely being held back as he is probably not ready. Olise.
Not saying it’s wrong. Just an observation.

I don't know why there's so much negativity? The game ebbed and flowed as many PL games do, with us in the ascendency at times and at others Southampton. Of course there were issues, not least the way our midfield three left big spaces at times (one of which led to the Broja goal), but we are still very much a work in progress and this was only Gallagher, Hughes and Kouyate's second game playing together.

I have criticised Zaha lately but he worked hard for the team tonight and although he gave the ball away a few times he scored a good goal and should have had an assist but for Edouard mistiming his shot. He also provided Mitchell with cover by tracing Livramento's forages forward.

Speaking of which, I don't understand the negativity around Mitchell. The lad has among the best defensive stats not just in our team but the PL as a whole. He is now more composed on the ball and numerous times last night rather than panicking he simply turned his man and played the ball to a teammate. He's not as threatening going forward as PvA was, but by god he's a better defender.

Tomkins was injured and he carried on for too long in my view. He did well to get back at one point and prevent a goal-scoring opportunity, but several times he was seen hobbling and holding his thigh.

Butland didn't really do too much wrong but for a player making a rare start he obviously wasn't quite as in tune with his teammates. I don't think it's fair to judge him after one game.

We showed character last night to fight for that point and I think that'll be what pleases Vieira the most. Second half we were the better team and if we can just get a bit more composure in and around the 18-yard box we should start picking up more wins.

I agree.

Bambi/ the Senagelese Carlton Palmer has to be ditched though. Liability.

Nor sure why Butland started, but sensible to give him some games anyway. Keep him sharp.
Their two goals were one offs. Both unstoppable. Amongst the best scored here this season. I don’t think any keeper would have got near either.

I think Guiata had a slight hand injury (he received treatment in the Everton game). Obviously not too bad though given he was on the bench.

Gallagher got kicked early on and seemed to be carrying it in the first half

Had the chances to take the game away from Southampton in that first half until they scored 2 great goals. The free kick was sublime, but it was never a free kick in the first place, their player should have been booked.

Will Hughes was having a go before the player even hit the deck! Great game to watch though and a draw was a fair result.
