Maybe he has just transitioned into a different style now. He’s been beaten up by defenders his whole career and carried this team for years you could understand it if this was contributing to his game needing to change at 29. With regards to his sending off, yes refs are gunning for him but he makes it so easy for them. The push for the second yellow was just plain stupid. He should be using his brain at 29. The frustration or passion is just way OTT. For me he’s the best I’ve seen - but I just think he’s on a natural cycle of his ability reducing slightly. If he’s conscious that he has lost a pit of pace it may be why he seems to have adapted his game and seems far easier to mark out of the game. This could contribute to the frustration he continually exhibits on the field. You can never predict when players ‘go ever the edge.’ Puncheon’s form seemed to drop off a cliff over a relatively short period. He went from being touted to be an England candidate to a shambling, lethargic midfield presence in a couple of seasons. Alex Ferguson was renowned for observing the tipping point for players and would discard and replace them at the tipping point. Obviously I’m not suggesting we are in a position to discard Wilf and he remains a fine athlete. I doubt we’ll see him at his electrifying best again though.

I had come round to the opinion that we might as well keep him now because he has the occasional flash of something special and who on earth is going to pay top dollar for him now he’s lost his pace, is almost 30 and is on circa Ł130K per week.

However, having been utter toilet for most of the season and after yesterday’s appalling show I would sooner be rid of this petulant ‘has been’ who is currently stealing a wage from us and who is actually now just a distraction and holding us back.

Get him gone to Newcastle for Ł20M and reinvest the wages in some decent younger players.

I think the suggestion that we cut our losses (whatever those are) are a bit premature.

Nobody knows how long Eze will take to get back to full fitness. Aside from Gallagher he remains our only serious goal threat not forgetting the chances he recently put on a plate for Edouard and Benteke.

A few weeks ago he got the goals that gave us back to back wins against City and Wolves.

Before VAR, this is what the FA did, i believe they called it 'Retrospective Punishment' or trial by TV, of which Sky & the bbc took great delight in highlighting who they wanted punished after the match(es) had finished.
