Just shows you don't need to be in tow to O2 bloodsuckers etc. and their site is a real pain. My nokia guide says it will not work with 3 network I guess because of 2G?

I still have a landline with an old Bakerlite dial phone. This does cause a problem when given an option menu as I can't press a number and the hash key is a thing of pure fantasy.

We also have an old dial phone, it's red and affectionately called the Batphone in our house. But, like you say Appollofuzz, impossible to use for business calls these days because of the need to hit option menus. It's now unplugged and sits there purely for nostalgic and decorative purposes. On the subject of smart phones, my wife finally relented last year and gave up her Nokia 6310 which she had used for something like 15 years. She hates her new Samsung!
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I worked in phones at the beginning of the boom and up until WAP was on phones. Amazing changes. I can't stand the noise of phones ringing, however.

So after the SIM card stuff sorted, the phone is now charged. Connected to Wi-Fi at home and on the coverage provider when roaming. It's getting scary now. Really close to using it for the first time. Feels a bit like having my first pack of condoms ready in my pocket. Will it be hassle setting it up ? How much use will i get out of it ? My parents are 82 and 83 years old. They used to just have normal mobiles that they would only switch on when they wanted to be called and then they would sit at home in the evening being cold called from India all night by people trying to steal their money on their landline. Anyway, my brother sister and I chipped in and bought them a smart phone each and then we set up a group family chat on Whatsapp that they realise means that they can keep in touch with their children and grandchildren passively and what is more they can phone me (for example) who lives abroad for free, do video calls etc and most importantly group calls that keeps the whole family together. It has been a real god send for them and i would suggest to anyone who "doesn't want a smart phone" that the benefits from them of staying in touch and up to date with friends and family in such an easy way far outweighs the initial difficulties and maybe fear (that was really their issue I think) that people can have.

I'd 2nd this. Mum isn't quite as old, but has a real tech fear. But getting to see pics and videos of the grandkids all day via Whatsapp and video calls is lovely
