1) We're unlikely to win ugly under Vieira, and indeed we're likely to drop points undeservedly.
2) We'll continue to try to play football out from the back and be pleasing on the eye.
3) Our central defenders are critical to the passing style, but are not great at defending crosses and set pieces
4) It's unlikely that Luka and Benteke have the required mobility to play Vieira's preferred style
5) We miss Mcarthur and Gallagher as authentic midfield players and I feel we have more control of the game when they feature.
We need to be identifying replacements in the next few months.
6) We need to find a way of accommodating Olise who is very influential even if he only has a few touches of the ball.
This shouldn't necessarily be at the expense of Ayew who gas done nothing to warrant being left out. In fact he'd probably make a better option than Benteke under Vieira as he's more mobile and works harder.

In conclusion a promising start under Vieira.

its the very opposite to Roy-ball...which was all defence and little else

We are the only team to triumph at the Etihad.

when we are good, its amazing.

our defence still needs to be improved

Neutral observers love to watch us play, they hated it with Roy.

Back in the day, i did defend Roy. And now happy to have been proven wrong. The football business is all about money, what PV has achieved is miraculous.

This would be fine if he was a natural finisher but he is not. I’d actually be happy to see him on the left wing so the crosses are whipped in similar fashion to Olises’s cross which created the Edouard goal. They can always alternate wings anyway. I think we need to be looking at life after Zaha.

Never mind the first half, Lessons he needs to learn fast is Wilf is now detrimental to the team he slows the play down and loses possession too much, Benteke is total rubbish, as is Luka and they need to be out of the club as soon as possible, and Olise, Eze and Rak-Sakyi need to play much more Eze and Olise permanent starters

Pretty good summary.

I still end up feeling frustrated at the end of most games. But frustrated because we are better than the oppo, rather than being frustrated with the style of football.

Lets hope that we can push on in the next couple of transfer windows, we might be at the start of something special.

A good thread and a good post!
Ayew and Edouarde might actually be quite an interesting pairing!
We don't miss Wilf as we once did and it is nice not to be a one man team - albeit - I would prefer that he played if he stop the hissy fits!
I like Viera and I like both his and the teams style - we are a good fit.
Given the clear out in the Summer getting rid of others now would be difficult but I fully expect Luka and Ward - amazing servants to the club and CB to be gone later this year.
Losing Gallagher will hurt but we will find someone.
Happy days right now.
Well done Steve Parish!

Has been an amazing job by Dougie and Parish and co. To recruit an extensive roster of new younger players AND a new manager AND a new attractive playing style to boot. Many had as down as strugglers this season and I was worried too at the start but we have really hit the ground running and the future looks bright.

I would say that the first half of the season has exposed our lack of quality cover in midfield.

When everyone is fit and available it's good - ie. Gallagher, Hughes, McArthur and Kouyate and we pull out results.

However Milojoivic, Schlupp and Riedlewald simply don't come up that standard. I still struggle to see what Schlupp's natural position is ?

We will lose Gallagher at the end of the season, and McArthur won't go on for much longer (Especially with his injuries). This is something that needs to be addressed either in January or the summer.

I agree with most of what yo say, but i think Schlupp is a decent player but wide not CM, Luka and Jairo we should be looking to sell and replace

Lucky to have Conor - he's really surprised me, just don't play him too deep.
