Struggling to understand all the fuss here. Blair was Prime Minister and this is what happens to Prime Ministers. How the system works.

Now I am more than happy for the entire struture to be destroyed and am increasingly becoming indifferent to the idea of a constitutional monarchy having any kind of meaningful role in how I want my life to be but this is just froth.

Blair is everything bad all of you say he is and then some. Not defending him in the slightest and see him as the manifestation of almost everything I disagree with but this is all wasted energy.

Order of the Garter, so as high as you get in terms of honours.

Blair was a competent and just PM, won three elections.

I don't get honours but I can't see anything wrong here.

He was also popular and won the election following the Iraq war, people were not put off voting for him by it.

We are in a lot worse mess now than we ever were with Tony Blair.

A competent and socially just administration, nobody associated labour with prosperity until he came along.

And you get your pensions benefits etc. paid into your accounts due to him.

Never understood the vitriol.

How about 'tough on crime' we didn't have stabbings under Tony Blair.

Didn’t have stabbings? The murder rate was at an all-time high when he was in power.

He sold out all the armed forces veterans by giving the IRA 'letters of comfort' basically immunity from prosecution. He will never be welcome amongst our community. He's nothing but a traitor. Cnut

I'm not going to weigh up Blair's pros and cons as opinions will be divided on the usual partisan grounds.

All I can say is if Ted Heath can win a gong...

Also, he was not just PM but also middle east envoy.

Finally, re Mrs W, I am sure her only discretion is in respect of the 10 Orders of Merit. Otherwise all awards are by committee and imposed on her. Do you think, if she had free choice, Thatcher would have got anything more than a crappy clock? Hated her by all accounts.

Being the attitude of the Conservative and Unionist Party that helped keep the Troubles going for 30 years.

Ah....someone I detest even more than Blair.....and in the detested politician stakes that's some achievement.
