No, Blair tried to avoid war by going to the United Nations (contrary to the USA who did not want to).

United Nations Resolutions gave Sadaam Hussein the opportunity of stating he had no weapons of mass destruction.

He repeatedly failed to do so, three times, leaving no option.

If this had been a conservative government we would have more likely have gone to war immediately.

As we have seen this year, conservative governments are just puppets of the USA.

Yo Blair! What about Dr Kelly?

It was dressed up as an imminent threat (45 minutes to deploy etc). I'm not so sure that there was a way out for Hussein regardless of what he did or did not declare.

Indeed it was seemingly already decided well in advance that we and American would be going into Iraq, and it was specifically and categorically stated that false reasons would be manufactured to get us to that point. (' painting a U-2 spyplane in United Nations (UN) colors and letting it fly low over Iraq to provoke Iraq into shooting it down, thus providing a pretext for the subsequent invasion etc) [Link] .

"It also shows Bush and Blair were making a secret deal to carry out the invasion regardless of whether weapons of mass destruction were discovered by UN weapons inspectors, in direct contradiction to statements made by Blair to British Parliament afterwards that Saddam would be given a final chance to disarm.

According to the memo, Bush is paraphrased as saying:

The start date for the military campaign was now pencilled in for 10 March. This was when the bombing would begin."

Blair was an egomaniac who was clearly close to infatuated with the idea of being Bush's 'sideman' and a major player on the world stage. Don't get me wrong, then and since he's played that like a charm to his financial advantage. I'm not about to give the benefit of the doubt to someone like him though, regardless of what party he claimed to represent.

I would agree that the current lot likely aren't any better. I'm not really seeing anyone worth voting for right now! Decent people often get left in the dust by the corrupted and corruptible. The system is under so many pressures from those with power, the rich, corporations. The interests of the man on the street ends up way down the list.

Wasn't Blair caught cottaging in North London in his early days?

It lets you all you need to know that someone like Blair as always nailed on for a knighthood. Regardless of politics I never encounter many who have time for him nowadays. And the smugness of the man throughout it all.

All ex PMs will be knighted and probably get called to the House of Lords ... e.g. Sir David Cameron (one helluva useless **** who didn't even have the balls to stay around once he'd messed up. He knew which 'mates' to tap up when he wanted to make himself some money though!). All I am saying is there are certainly some who would be less deserving than Tony Blair.

I'm certainly not saying that a petition should hold sway. Just that Tony Blair is a narcissist who went to war on dodgy info, which resulted in countless deaths that he doesn't appear to lose much sleep over. Even if he still has some supporters, he doesn't need them. He's his very own one man love-in.

He not only went to war on dodgy info. He wanted to go to war because he saw what winning a war done for Thatcher (The Falklands). The only problem was that it was a war that was never going to be won, but hey-ho, what's a few hundred squaddies lives between friends ?

Despicable, vile curnt.

And they voted him PM three times, including the election after the Iraq war.

Not all the population are eligible to vote

Yes, I have no doubt that it's not a who's who of the most deserving when in comes to honours being given out to these types. I have far more time for ordinary people who are acknowledged based on making a noteworthy contribution to societ or their community. They have at least often done something positive that is deserving of praise.

Indeed. That and the deaths of countless civilians who are perpetually caught in the middle.

The Honours system needs a massive overhaul and rescinding this Mans honour would be a great start to 2022.
Only 700,000 might have signed the petition but i suspect many millions would be cheering in the streets if it were to happen.
He is a reviled ex-leader regardless of ones politics!

What is it with Geoff Hoon's face? I've never seen a picture of him not looking like there's a midget downstairs blowing him.
