It's just maths; the majority (by dictionary definition, not the political meaning) of the country vote for left-leaning parties in nearly every election, but first past the post makes that irrelevant, because usually ~40% of the country voted for the Tories.

And instead we have a government which the majority of people didn't vote for, with a total mandate to do what they want - PR is not without it's problems, but it's infinitely better than this faux democracy s***e.

There's a reason the majority of the world use proportional systems.

Left leaning yes I think that's true.

However, if given a choice, most people would also eat a cake rather than broccoli.

Mind you I've just made an argument for authoritarianism which we already have too much of.

I don't know what the answer is....Is there actually an answer, it's just what we like as individuals really....We just want our ideas implemented and we're happy to turn our eyes away if it's messy.

I think it's why ultimately I favour city states as the human end state, in some ways, similar to the US model....it's closer to the human condition.

That way if you want to be a mainstream lefty, far lefty, mainstream righty or far righty it's just a relocation. Everybody gets a home in a way.

Though obviously there are significant issues with the city state idea, not least security....but within a general decentralized worldview I like it.
