I really can't see the appeal of signing Nketiah :-

1. If he was good he would be playing more regularly at Arsenal, especially now. Auba is all but left Arsenal and Lacazette will probably leave at the end of the season. Martinelli is injury prone.

2. He scored at hat-trick recently but that is against League 1 opposition. When he went to Leeds on loan he did absolutely nothing.

3. He turned us down in the summer because we would not offer enough money, shows how much he wants to play us for us.

4. He is prepared to run his contract down to become a free agent and get as much wages as he possible can. Reminds me bit of Ryan Fraser from a season ago, and that has worked out well for them.

They don't have to.

It becomes more about how much Brighton and us are willing to bid.

Personally I think you can count Brighton out - from what I understand they have a very tight wage structure and they won't rupture that to sign someone who is looking for the biggest pay deal he can get. I rather hope that rules Palace out too if I'm honest..

You can't change the way things are but you can change the way you are with the way things are.

The appeal is that the guy obviously has some talent, but for whatever reason it hasn't quite worked out at Arsenal. With a few months left on his contract we should get him for a fraction of his current transfer value.

If he works wonders for us he'll be worth a lot more, if he does f all, because of his age, he'll still probs we worth what we'd pay now.

I'm not sure about that. I may be wrong but didn't he want something like a minimum of 120k a week and that's what killed the deal.

Add to the list Haarland, Dembele, Pogba, Bale....

Players are entitled to run their contract down. They're just seeing out the agreed time on their current contract. In fact, I respect it a lot more than the likes of Harry Kane who demand the club commits to a 5 year term and then decide they're not willing to do the same.

Spot the odd one out:

Haaland Dembele Pogba Bale Nketiah

You could even add Guaita and Fraser to the list and see that Nketiah has little market value based on his performances and there is no need to pay excessive wages if he comes free. Strip out the fact that he came through Arsenal and he should be treated as a cheap striking option on low wages - 30k a week territory. That doesn't change if he comes free or not.

Were arsenal not roundly condemned for holding out for too much?

It was subsequently reported that Arsenal had accepted the offer and the issue was actually the player.

Playing today against Forest. Not overly impressed so far, but still first half.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
