My definition of populism is exactly the same as most. Google define it as "a political approach that strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups." Which works for me.

If Johnson isn't put out to grass it's the Tories who won't be going anywhere.

So it's a very convenient term since it can be seen to include just about anything.

It's not the Tory's performance that you need to look at, it is Labour. Despite all the government's alleged own goals, Labour are still performing poorly. The Liberals have had their usual mid term success, which will never be repeated in a general election.
Boris still has popularity among voters despite his limitations. The threat to the Tories will be from an emerging sensible Right Wing party if one ever gets its act together and eats into Tory votes.

It's perfectly clear that much if not all of what is happening right now is jostling within the party, and a concerted and drawn out effort to get Boris out of the top job. Fascinating to see it play out.

And again, much like your habit of having a ludicrously lurched view on race, politically it pays to break that habit and appreciate that a government making decisions that kept people (regardless of their politics) away from dying loved ones while jollying it up themselves is massively insulting to the British public. The contrast between forcing people to die alone while knocking back Pimms themselves is about as stark as it gets and transcends party politics.

I seriously doubt Boris is going anywhere.

I had considered it 50/50, but based on your frequently disconnected takes if this is genuinely your stance, he's certainly in major trouble.

The job he does best is be an unattractive, self-righteous slimeball without an ounce of charisma. Not a good appearance for a potential pm.

Not at all. You ignore the important phrase "that strives to appeal to ordinary people". Populism tries to make the politicians who adopt it popular by giving the people what they want, and not delivering what they need. When we choose representatives we expect them to take decisions on our behalf that are in our best interests. We don't elect them to be delegates who simply do what we want.

Populism is a landscape of false dawns, populated by fake politicians interested in their own survival and not that of the people they serve.

That the opposition remains weak and quite possibly in its death throes is undeniable. I sincerely hope new parties emerge, including one on the right. The sooner the current Tories realise they can be split down the middle the better. I want to see smaller parties, some regionally based, and a series of coalitions, so we avoid any wild swings from left to right but establish a generally accepted consensus, with only minor deviations.

Naaahhh. Not a cats chance in hell. What you got to consider is that most of them are piss heads on both sides. There were 30/40 at the party. Who would be sliced? There all a bunch of numtys. No Boris won’t get scratched on this one.

Currently about even money to go or stay, so I take it you'll be placing the house on it? Free money, right?

Whereas at least Tony Blair had some charisma.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Both repulsive in their own way. Whether party or PM it's fast becoming an equivalent is selecting which STD you'd prefer.

Boris Johnson has in the past been described as a "greased albino piglet". He might well be cornered in a cul-de-sac with the butchers whetting their knives.

This is the gravest, most serious crisis he has faced since becoming PM.

Quite. Wholly unelectable, regardless of ability
