Back to the just-dead actor - That clip in The Heat of The Night, when Rod Steiger's bigoted cop was driving Poitier's sophisticated New York detective past a cotton field worked by poor blacks - 'not for you eh Virgil?'

Deliciously sarcastic.

My mum broke the news to me of the passing of one of her all-time favourite actors, Sir Sidney Poitier, on the day he died last week. She especially loved his performances in To Sir, with Love and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, and admired him for his kind and classy demeanour as much as his acting talent, as many did.

An Oscar-winning actor, a film director, and a Bahamian Ambassador to Japan as well as to UNESCO, Sir Sidney left his mark on the world both on and off screen. His inspirational life and work will remain a lasting legacy to countless others.

My own most recent and outstanding memory of Sir Sidney Poitier is from the night he was awarded with his BAFTA Fellowship in 2016. His acceptance speech, along with the tributes paid to him at the time, was particularly touching.

He got top billing because he was Black and was associated with race related films. He was perfect for the Left wing Woke narrative of ITN, which I will say one more time, is beyond parody for its prejudice.

It's a thread of respect for the man. Your further pointless race obsessive post above adds nothing more than the other four or five. You've made your non point. Repeatedly. Now please let the thread get back to its purpose.

Well said. For all he achieved, a very humble man.

Your endless drone and delusion of self importance is quite laughable.

You don't run the site.

Sidney Potier is primarily famous for being a Black face in movies about race issues when that was considered controversial.
It is therefore quite ironic that people like you wish to close down discussions about the current state of racial politics on a thread about a man who highlighted them in his time.

Get a grip.

You're a fine one to lecture others on self importance. You've clearly learned nothing from your recent slap on the wrist. That you manage to turn even an obituary thread into yet another of your never ending race rants is really quite something. You don't run the site either I'm afraid. Carry on as you have been I doubt it will be long until you are gifted yet another reminder of that.

Now please, a degree of respect for the man if that's not too much to ask.

Indeed. There was something larger than about stars of the silver screen in those days too. A touch of mystery. That's lost nowadays, with actors feeling the need to be accessible via every social media platform under the sun. There's less of a divide between them and us, which may be a positive in most areas of life but not really fame as it used to be.

On yer bike. Your self righteousness is quite nauseating.

This is a great time to discuss Potier's legacy and how the originally righteous effort to end segregation and racial prejudice have been turned into something very ugly in the 21st century.
Saying RIP is all fine and good, but please don't give me your false outrage because I dare to make a related comment.

Thumb through the thread & read your posts & you haven't even spelt the actors surname correct once.
I don't often agree with a lot of the left leaning posters here & dare I say (especially fiscally & economically) I'm probably more to the right than you, but on this particular thread you are making your self look a bigger t*** than you probably are in real life.

Why thank you.

I'm not quite sure exactly which part you object to, other than the name spelling. That is how the name is usually spelt, but I stand corrected for what it's worth.
