My thinking:

Any time you play a top-six club you assume a loss and then try and think of reasons you'll get something out of the game. So, reasons to be optimistic:

1. The absence of Salah and Mane (and Keita) is an enormous plus.
2. Liverpool is playing tonight (Thursday) in a semi-final with what looks like a pretty full-strength team. They'll have more miles on the clock than us.
3. Liverpool has won only two of its last five Premier League games (and one of those was against Newcastle). They're hardly in form.
4. Being realistic, they're out of the title race so likely its the Cups they have to play for to win silverware this season.
5. If they win tonight, I'm guessing there's always a semi-final/going to Wembley buzz which means Selhurst on Sunday may well have a tinge of "after the Lord Mayor's Show" for them.
6. I'm guessing they won't get any decent preparation in for Sunday. After Arsenal tonight and with us on Sunday, I doubt they'll return to headquarters. More likely they'll remain in London, rest and recovery tomorrow, and a walk-through somewhere on Saturday. Our preparation for the game will almost certainly be better than theirs.

OK, Liverpool remain favourites but the set of circumstances above suggest that if ever we're going to have a chance to turn them over, there's a lot in our favour on Sunday. What the hell:

Palace 3 Liverpool 1

We are also missing key players

Prefer Ayew to Olise, he is back.

Yep, 100% agree, heard we'd given him time off initially. He's ideal for that Robertson/Jota threat.

A lot of posters seem to think that Wilf & Chiek are no longer 'key' players anymore, but i know what you mean.

I opened BBC Sport this morning, hoping to read that Arsenal had kicked Liverpool about, causing a number of their players to be ruled out or doubtful for the weekend, plus a couple of red cards for the bin-dippers for retaliation

But unfortunately Arsenal merely rolled over for a routine defeat, it seems.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I think that as long as Sclupp is selected he must be wide, and if Eze is selected he must be central, he is physically strong and more suited to that role in my opinion

We are going to have to be a lot better than we were against Millwall and Brighton, especially in the first half and if we start mucking about trying to play out from the back we could be in for another heavy defeat. I really fear for us in this one.

I think that because Liverpool midfield play on the deck it might suit Hughes more, so a good game from him and it might be a draw, obvs hoping for a win, if Jota draws a blank

Don't, agree, although Ayew is good at holding the ball and winning free kicks, he doesn't create anything, and No Salah or Mane, Attack, Attack, Attack

After City game anything is possible ,if we take it to them ! If we play like we did against Brighton or Millwall then we will be pummeled.
We are good when create & think positive- when we still back we lose it’s that simple. We have a good bunch of lads - we could do with changes but we ain’t got the dosh yet. This season is about survival but with change to style & approach- it’s happening, lads are learning - positive for next season of which we will be measured on results more so & execution

Forever Palace Proud

A lot of posters seem to think that Wilf & Chiek are no longer 'key' players anymore, but i know what you mean.

I love Kouyate but he's hardly irreplaceable. Hughes and, if we play two pivots, Milivojevic isn't a huge drop-off if the latter plays to the level he's capable of and while I'd pick Chiek ahead of Luka on any given day, we'll miss Kouyate a lot less than they'll miss Mane and/or Salah. I don't think Chiek is a "key" player for us; just a good one.

As for Wilf, until this season I'd have said he's irreplaceable; any game he missed was one we'd be lucky to get anything out of. While he remains a "key" player any way you measure it, that's no longer true. One thing we now know is that we can get results without Wilf in the side. In fact, Wilf was looking pretty jaded in the Christmas period, culminating in his red-card at Spurs. Arguably the last game he really looked much like the Wilf we're familiar with was Burnley, back in November. I think an argument can be made that AFCON has been a good thing for him; getting away and re-charging his batteries elsewhere may bring him back to Selhurst in a better frame of mind. So yes, we're missing a key player but again, the Wilf of the last two months won't be as sorely missed as the Mane or Salah of that period will be missed by Liverpool.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.
