Burnley murdered us at set pieces and corners at their place. They scored two in quick succession with ease and we looked like conceding every time.
We desperately need to improve this as we just don’t win a single header at set pieces (either defending or attacking).

Spot on !

Burnley will also be very hard to break down - they have only conceded 2 goals in their last 6 games.

If you read back through all the comments it’s ridiculous. Zaha no good, mateta is woeful, Clyne and Ward useless,.. yet we’ve just spanked a team which love to hate us and I love to hate them, and we still moan about this and that ?? Let’s enjoy the victory and feel confident in spanking Burnley Saturday in front of a full selhurst ?? Too many negative keyboard warriors on here. The first match my son came to 12 years ago we lost 5-0 to scunthorpe.. maybe appreciate where we’re at and actually enjoy it ??

Yep, I think the long yearned for expansive play has ultimately come at a cost most if not all (myself included) did not quite take into consideration. I think we had all hoped to add this facet to our game whilst maintaining defensive prowess however this has not happened unfortunately, I'd be reluctant to say it seems to be one or t'other however that looks to be the pickle we are in.

I still think Anderson has been a good acquisition for us however given his height, and Danish-ness, I did have in mind a far more aerially dominant player having only ever seen very limited coverage of the player. Again with Guehi, I think it is a weaker part of his game too.

Will be interesting in the longer run and perhaps we may see ourselves reverting to the type of old. I would certainly like for us to have that option in the squad/off the bunch to adapt for squeakier bum times.

Anyhoo - 1-4 at Vicarage Road is a nice ending to the day and let's hope for a good performance against Burnley to follow up, then I can see a far more relaxed atmosphere around the virtual gaff.

Well done, and Come on, you Palace!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Great result and probably no side in the league I'd rather put a beating on with the obvious exception of Brighton. Particularly satisfying that Wilf scored two against them given their history.

Lots of positives to take from that and it should really improve our confidence before taking on rejuvenated Burnley at the weekend. With any luck we can use it as a springboard to remove any danger of relegation quickly and hopefully finish above Brighton again.

The only negative is that we really need to start defending set pieces better. The commentator said we've conceded 13 goals from set pieces now I believe? If so that's awful and definitely one of the two major defensive areas we need to work on in addition to our habit of conceding late.

However, fantastic result and well done to the team and staff.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

What do you expect him to say? Roy is new to the squad, and he must express belief in them in order to instill confidence. In fact, Mateta's goal took a lucky deflection, and if Wilf hadn't finished so clinically (somewhat unusual for him) the final score might have been 1-1.

Sure, we outplayed them and deserved to win, but most good coaches in Roy's situation would have said almost exactly what he said.

Vital win. I thought for most of the match we controlled the midfield and it was a sign of our strength in depth we could replace Ayew, McCarthur & Schlupp with Gallagher, Hughes & Mateta.
The fresh legs really helped and Watford looked flat for long periods possibly as a result of their exertions on Saturday.
The Ayew for Olise sub was well timed as it stopped them getting at us down the right as Olise was struggling to properly cover as he tired and also contributed to us getting the extra goals.
I do think we do sit back to quickly once we have gone ahead rather than continue doing what we were doing but today we got the result we wanted.

Our weakness is Burnley's strength.
We don't win headers defending corners or attacking them and we can be found wanting at crosses from open play.An opposition head nearly always gets to the ball.
Burnley scored tonight with a Ben Mee header.

Your right Willo and they are a tall physical side. I wonder if Vieira will be tempted to use Benteke, Tomkins or Luka, who whilst not being the slickest of ball players, can do the rough stuff and get their heads (and elbows!) near the ball.

Nice to see the stats say - 7 shots with 5 on target!
I know it was only Watford but it is promising despite the fact that after 20 mins or so I posted at how bad it was!
