Two departures I remember that really upset me at the time were Bill Glazier and Steve Kember.

Ah yes! Very much remember him, did he turn up at Charlton sometime grrr. But yes enjoyed him for Palace!

Alan Curbishley signed Hreidarsson for Charlton from Ipswich.
Hreirdarsson was relegated from the top division with 3 clubs.
Certainly had a strong handshake.

Apropos our heroes, I have just been informed that Welling Utd have parted company with Peter Taylor.

Not neccessarily the best ever players, but gave their all, or seemed to love playing for the club:

Ian Walsh
Billy Gilbert
Dave Madden
David Hopkin
Jonny Williams
Eddie McGoldrick
Peter Ramage
Andy Roberts

I have spoken to Gavin Nebbeling a few times over the years.
He came over from South Africa and played over 150 games for us.
Very nice chap indeed.

Along with Kevin ‘ticker’ Taylor and Tony Finnigan, he was one of those players in that team that Sir Coppell was starting to shape after the depression of the years before, along with the more obvious hero’s of Wright Bright and Gray

In terms of Lazarus, perhaps you will recall the chant of "Laza,Laza,Laza,Laza,Lazarus" !
And his goal celebrations.
He must be into his 80s now.

Back in 1988,we played away to Swindon on a Sunday afternoon.
We were leading 2-1 in the dying embers of the game, when Finnigan playing right-back got forward down the right.Instead of taking the ball towards the corner flag, he crossed the ball and not long afterwards Swindon got an equaliser.
I believe a few expletives from Willo !!

Even so, I always thought he was better at right back than when he played in midfield, you would probably beg to differ

On the way back Steve Coppell was filling up at the same petrol station as me on the M4.

I too was of the opinion that he was better at right-back than in midfield.
