How good was Tyrick Mitchell last night, he had Mahrez and Walker to shut out? Apart from the one that Mahrez ran onto in the box,he didn’t get any views of our goal.

Every player worked themselves into the ground last night and as Vieira said, we earned that little bit of luck. There was much to admire in the tactics as well, with Palace springing traps and forming almost a small cage around the most influential players at times. Mitchell often had to manage Mahrez on his own, but he did about as good a job as anyone has this season in stopping him. It was telling that players like Grealish began to lose their heads.

I have to give Kouyate motm for his astonishing Apocalypse Now performance in diving into the mud like he'd been shot on at least three occasions. It may have been genuine, but it definitely disrupted City and got inside their heads with frustration bubbling over. Aside from that though he bossed the centre of the pitch and City were forced to spend most of their attacks in the wide positions.

On a final point, I wonder what Pep actually said to Vicente after the final whistle, as he was definitely not congratulating him that's for sure. Vicente has a hilarious Manuel type response to criticism from referees and opposition players/managers with hands turned up, a shrug of the shoulders and a grimaced face as if to say "Que?"

A fantastic effort from the players. To achieve 2 shutouts against that City team is a huge achievement in itself.

To get a result against teams such as City, you need to be on your game and have a little bit of luck too. So I think we thoroughly deserved a point.

I think Pep was having a go a V for his ' game management '. Maybe someone would like to have a word with him about the cynical tactical fouls that City get away with across the middle of the pitch.

What is really pleasing to see is that as well as dominating the ball against the lesser teams, we have now added some steel and a counterattacking threat against the big boys.

A couple of thoughts:

Playing short out the back didn't work today because of Foden. His role looked almost exclusively to stop MG an JA passing to each other. It stopped us settling, and forced JA to go long a lot, and under pressure. Mostly misplaced.

They/Viera decided that goal kicks were going to go long about 25 mins in and the game became less one sided, more scrappy and we could start to press a bit higher and impose ourselves.

Ayew still has a massive role in the squad, he is go good at transitioning under pressure. Made a big difference when he came on.

I struggle to understand the midfield without a playmaker (Macca, Hughes, or dare I say Luka). Neither Jeff, CK, or Connor really like to be on the ball and dictate play. They all have their own strengths, but playing the 3, we are resigned to not having any of the ball. When we do get it, its attack as quick as possible, vs building the play. Probably right for City, but not for others IMO.
