Twice in the last few days I've read a football journalist expressing the view that if Gallagher wants to promote his England career, he should stay at Palace at least for next season.

Lotus-Cheek was quality for us, a very good player indeed.

If RLC isn't the poster boy for why Connor should return to Palace next season or for longer, I don't know who is. If talented young English players buried down the pecking order at top 6 sides don't look at RLC's time with us and what's happened to him since, they really must be absolutely thick as s***.

Would I sign him now? I'd probably take the risk but where three years ago it'd have been in confident expectation, now it'd be in hope. Some players really don't know which side their bread is buttered on and I am losing patience with that.

If Connor gets a guarantee from Tuchel that he's in Chelsea's first choice line-up and can expect to start 30+ games next season then I'd understand him going back. If the offer is "you're definitely in with the squad and can fight for a place in the team" then he'd be absolutely insane not to demand a transfer.

Whilst I don't disagree in principle:

Connor is a Chelsea boy, he's been there his whole life, it will take a lot to walk away from that, always wondering if he could have made it.

Others have done it, Chelsea have quite a few young English lads in and around the first team.

He has consistently stepped up over the last couple of seasons, most recently getting MOTM for England. Why would he feel like he couldn't make the step up again

As good a player as he is, I'm not convinced he is an automatic starter for Chelsea. At the end of the day though the decision probably rests with him as I'm sure we would move heaven and earth to find the money if given the chance to sign him.

I am trying to look at Palace like an outsider would, which is difficult, however I do think we must be an interesting proposition for younger talented players when you see the direction in which we are moving.

That’s never going to happen surely. My preferred route would be to do another season with us. Stay in the limelight to ensure going to the World Cup. Then make a decision in a year.

Bumped into a mate of mine this morning who has got a season ticket at Chelsea. He told me we are looking really good and they are worried about Wembley.

I've had a bit of this too. My two mates at the gym are one Chelsea and the other Spurs. This week, since Everton and the England games, there's been a level of respect that literally hasn't been there before. I wouldn't say the Chelsea fan is "worried", but he's definitely taking us seriously for the first time. He expects to win, but he no longer thinks it's nailed on. And the same with the Spurs guy. He's talking about us like we belong for the first time, rather than we're a bottom feeder who's punching above our weight. He's mentioned players he'd like to have at WHL. I really think our image is changing, and that should help the players improve their self-image and confidence.

Sensible, and I do agree with a lot of what you say. I think an awful lot depends on what happens with Chelsea's takeover and the ramifications it has on their budget, manager, and planning for next season. Given their strength in depth, though, it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that they may think one more year at Selhurst might not be the worst thing for Connor and accept that if they're not planning to play him extensively next season, playing every week for Palace for another twelve months may leave them with a better player in the end than having an occasional runout off the bench for Chelsea. We can all hope. And he's certainly happy here so I think Connor would settle for that if he knew he had a future at Chelsea to play for in the mid- to long term.

Agree, it is the best all round solution.

My Chelsea mates all think that Gallagher will get the opportunity to replace Kante next season.

I’d be happy to take Kante of their hands if he is not going to be picked next year.
