All I am trying to do is to get this "woke" idea put in its rightful context. It isn't quite as simple as some seem to want it to be.

Slavery wasn't just illegal, or simply immoral, by any standards. A strong argument could be made that it was even worse than paedophilia, though both are horrible. Slavers regarded their captives as less than human. Thousands died being transported, including many children. Savile was an evil man, but, so far as I know, he didn't kill anyone.

Using the passage of time to ameliorate this behaviour is not acceptable. It should be remembered, but in the right way, so that we never forget.

I don't think anyone has forgotten how bad slavery was.

Let's not try and kid anyone that the current BLM related noise or statue bashing has anything to do with remembering slavery.

However bad it was, it will have to be left in the past, just like all the other enslavement that many races have endured over the centuries. No one has a monopoly on enslavement.

You don't hear anyone asking to knock down the Colosseum in Rome.

Why does everything have to be laid at the door of "BLM"? From all I can tell, and it's not something I follow or have much interest in, it's mostly young local activists involved who have no connection to "BLM".

For the record, I don't think they should be destroyed either. If the local people want them removed and placed in a museum, with explanations to set them in their historical context, or even left in place with new inscriptions, that ought to satisfy everyone. The Colosseum's history is a big part of any visit to Rome.

I suspect the ‘yet’ was inserted by The Daily Mail

I also expect that if any statue were removed it would be someone other than livingstone.

There is no sign at all that any statue is targeted for removal. This is nonsense written by two media sources that just love to enrage people that enjoy getting enraged

So get a life, not mindlessly angry.

" yet " LMFAO

Just let Mapletree and his fellow travellers enjoy their ideological positions in peace.

I've been there twice now, first time I went thought it was a bit of a let down and sh!t. Second time, still sh!t.

I can quite comfortably state as well, being a Christian, that I do not feel the Colosseum is offensive to me despite the fact numerous Christians were persecuted and brutally murdered there. This may be because I value it's historical value and the awe it inspires as a relic of an ancient world. Or maybe because I am the kind of person who finds solace and confidence in my own personality and achievements in life, and who does not hold a bitter grudge with the world as a result of my own failures or necessity to rely upon others for mere survival. I also do not feel the need to seek drama or some sort of pathetic, moral martyrdom to give my life meaning in the absence of any other evidence. Not saying definitely but I think it could well have something to do with it.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

What I found odd there was that they have a display of bones of animals that died in the games, horses, lions, dogs etc and.....chickens.

I think even an unarmed Christian could take on a chicken.

The ground floor arches were where the hookers did quickie knee tremblers, sadly not the same at Wembley

yes, they are not ruling out removing statues in the future, hence the use of " yet ".

If you disagree that of course is your view

Not following BLM doesn't mean I haven't followed the news stories and from all I have seen, and heard reported, it appears these actions have little or no connections to BLM.

Or even, and probably more likely, another chicken!
