Unlikely.

How do you get away with disrupting threads on a regular basis?

Quite clearly this is one of those plans that isn't going to actually happen.

A cynic might even say that's why it has been proposed in this form in the first place. Excites the party faithful, but doesn't involve actually doing anything. Job done. Though as a wider point, with the numbers we're seeing it of course does make sense to make the UK a less attractive destination than other countries.

Stupid, illegal, wantonly cruel, this could only be the conservative government deflecting from its disastrous running of the cost of living crisis engineered by themselves.

What a pathetic figure Johnson cuts, our first officially criminal Prime Minister.

Fortunately it looks very unlikely it will fly.

Give it a rest Stalin.

Obviously, you think that illegals should be encouraged to come here by the boat load.

That figures.

You go on believing any press snippet that bungle lets you get off on, Pritis giant hairdryer probably had your interest- but it was pure fantasy- still, if it makes you feel better, drink it in! As I have said, I doubt one refugee will ever see Rwanda, not a bad return for £120 million in this CONservatives free spending world!

I reckon your still angry about uber.
One day you might let your head rule, not your wallet!

If any do get sent to Rwanda they look like having good accommodation heath services etc.

It looks like a good break after their struggles they need it.

And they are free to come and go - so we will be seeing them soon after, refreshed after their return trip from Rwanda.

Everyone needs a spot of leave after-all.

So Boris announces the new strategy to combat illegals.

I have little confidence that the government will handle this competently, but it is a step in the right direction.

One step closer to my little plan of starting a new city for illegals that Wisbech scoffed at.

My problem is that Boris is singing the praises of legal migrants, telling us how 60% of the England team is of immigrant background and don't forget the NHS. The NHS that is no longer fit for purpose.

Are we supposed to be pleased by that?

What he forgets is all the problems that mass immigration has caused and, in some cases, the rather poor choices of immigrants we have allowed to come here.

Sure, we can celebrate some benefits of immigration, but frankly I'd say that most of the benefit has been for the immigrants themselves at our expense.

The truth is that illegal immigration is a growing problem that has to be stopped, but right now the flow of illegals is dwarfed by the numbers coming here legally.

It's all very well getting all tough on channel crossers and the scum that facilitate their journey, but this hides a grater truth about this green and pleasant land being swamped by foreigners using up resources and eroding our heritage.

How many more will we'welcome'until Britain is no longer recognisable?

I haven't read the detail yet as I have been busy today, but from what I understand so far bears no resemblance to anything you were fantasising over.

You wanted some imaginary, uninhabited, undeveloped space to be found to which all the illegals could be shipped and then forgotten.

This appears to be an arrangement with Rwanda, no doubt at great cost to ourselves, to hold and process illegal immigrants. Those who qualify as refugees will be allowed to remain in Rwanda, those who don't get sent back to their country of origin.

It seems this will be targetted at single men, who are believed to be economic migrants transported by people smuggling gangs. Women, children and obviously genuine refugees will be treated with more compassion by the border force. The Navy will now take over security in the Channel, to avoid the risk of people just now disappearing, rather than handing themselves in.

If this does disincentivise the use of people traffickers, then it could be a clever move. That though remains a big "if". It must also face some inevitable legal hurdles.

The timing though stinks of political opportunism.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Initially it's £120 million.
Hotels for illegals atm are North of £3 million....
A day.
Seems a great investment as once word gets round it could make the UK less appealing and reduce the amount jumping in dingys.
Only brexit allows us to do this!

9 in 10 of the economic migrants tossing the channel illegally in dinghies were male. Nothing to see here. How awful we were to want to stop it. Heard some stupid cow on the radio earlier complaining how terrible it’ll be for the men aiming to do this and end up in Rwanda. This country is fecked. Fecked if you can’t pick and choose where to live exactly.

Doesn't resemble it eh?

It's heading in that direction. Rwanda needs money and more workforce, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

It's a deterrent first and foremost.

Does this address Britain's bigger infrastructure and resource problems? No.
