I’m going to give Steve Lovell a shout. Simply because of a random away game I’ve mentioned on here many times. In November 1981 we hadn’t won away for 18 months as we travelled to Wrexham away. It was two crap teams near the bottom of the 2nd division, we were in serious decline, good players leaving, it was foggy, freezing cold, a poxy journey and we’d had coins, bottles etc thrown at us in the police escort to the ground, there was only about 50 of us in the away end, caged in like animals, so when Lovell popped up with a late winner, we went mental. I think that qualifies him as a lesser mentioned hero

Not sure anyone’s mentioned Super Kevin Phillips. Not with us for long and it’s fair to say his best years were behind him, but it’s also fair to say, he still knew where the goal was in his short spell with us. Add to that, one of the coolest penalty kicks under pressure you’ll ever see, which was one of the most important goals in our history. Edited by monkey (26 Apr 2022 4.59pm)
