How will the cost of living crises effect sport?

We are heading for a complete financial reset whatever that looks like. There is too much debt in the system and the banks want rid of it.

Before that though things will get much much worse.

Then everyone will be pleading with the government to come and save them but will get more than they bargained for.

The players will probably want more wages, as luxury cars and villas abroad will have gone up in price.

In terms of grassroots football, an idea has been 'Floated' about kick-offs being brought forward from 3PM to prevent the use of floodlights in the winter months.

Certainly with football, there is some sort of 'run-away train' feeling with regards to finances... and that it will inevitably crash one day.

Reports (not that they are to be taken literally) saying about 50% of population are going to be struggling with the old 'heat or eat' dilemma soon whilst the likes of Premier League players are paid tens if not hundreds of thousands of pounds each week!

I dare not forecast or predict, primarily as I do not have sufficient knowledge to, but will be interesting to see how this plays out.

They day I cannot afford a hot meal for the family, I will rue my CPFC bathroom towel which is currently draped over the bannister and damn my wife for bothering me with ludicrous statements and subsequent questions/conversations, such as "You need a new towel, what sort of towel would you like?? " and my inevitable, difficult answer of 'a palace one' which, to her credit, she dutifully fulfils.

Maybe come that day there will be Palace ready meals with some player's face on it. 'Come eat Eze's noddles', while you burn cardboard to heat the stove.

The government has just announced an independent regulator for football to cover finance and ownership amongst other things. No date for when this will happen or how much power the regulator will have but if it lives up to the hype this can only be a good thing for football.

The FA has completely failed the game and the fans and allowed the Premier League or rather the big 6 to run the game for their benefit.

I think players wages will stabilize or go down as the likes of the big Italian and Spanish clubs can't compete so apart from the elite players there is little competition outside the PL.

Palace have shown the way to go by reducing their wage bill.

I get the impression that as soon as the top set can think of another excuse for an official European super league they will take it.....mind you wasn't Parish observing that they are practically doing the same thing now by using underhand tactics.

I would be more concerned about the systematic destruction of supply chains and our food supply.
Some 18 huge food processing plants in the US gutted by fire (two hit by planes - what are the odds) while tens of millions of chickens and turkeys are destroyed because of ‘bird flu’. At the same time we have the government incentivising farmers with lump sums to retire and the Ukraine war taking a large percentage of crucial resources like potash for fertiliser, wheat, energy (oil and gas) out of the supply chain. And remember "cow farts" are the problem.

Make sure you have food in reserve.

I've been a prepper for a few years now. Let's hope that none of us get to actually needing reserves.

I wonder how much football will be affected. Football is a necessity to many and for many who go I expect there are other ways they can save money. Fewer takeaways, fewer clothes and shoe purchases, holidays etc. People have even got used to saving money on haircuts.

The few who decide not to go due to the living costs squeeze may not be such a loss in the premier league considering it’s corporate and tv revenue that matters, and again, football on tv is another essential to many. It could hurt clubs in leagues below however.

I find it a bit annoying when I hear people claim they’re paying more on energy bills than rent or their mortgage on the radio. Complete rubbish. What’s the average wage spent on rent/mortgage? Half the country would be defaulting and there would be property market crash. Maybe if they’re Middlesbrough for example this could could be true.

A lot of people are going to be added to the struggling list and do well to learn to cook rather than heat prepared stuff and treats.

I think when people will suffer less food and clothes to see football something has gone a bit wrong somewhere....I think that's a percent but most will priororise the basics.....you'd hope anyway.

I'm worried for people in the coming months and years.

Pubs will suffer. Expect more to disappear.

Like restaurants, it's amongst the first things people cut back on.....nightclubs as well.....not that many of us would be amongst their clientele these days.

A thought I’ve never shared before, but I have seen a number of eateries shut down in lewisham over the past 10-15 years only to be replaced by another one, temporarily, as that then closes down, am I the only one??

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Watched a few of those prepper programmes the problem in the UK would be where to plan your bug out location. Wisbech wouldn't be the safest depending on the type on doomsday scenario you believe in.

Personally I've got 3 packs of Vesta Chow Mein and a 1.5l bottle of gin.
