I highlighted that any diminishing of this behaviour or blame heaped on the assaulted would lead to further attacks and here we are shortly after. A dangerous precedent indeed.

The pendulum swings. Still, to my mind comedy is an art form where you have to be able to push things and look at the absurdity of it all. If something's funny it's funny. If it's not we don't have the right to be offended to the extent that we're lamping people, else there can be no live comedy to begin with. I don't know if it's already been mentioned on this thread however the Chappelle incident is an astonishing example of people holding extremist views feeling justified in resorting to violence. We seem to have skipped that part of the spectrum where basic tenets such as "Don't abuse people for race, disability etc.' and providing 'equal opportunity' in the world of employment and so forth have paved the way for a massive jump to nonsensical ideologies which, where previously ridiculed, are now considered not only acceptable but also almost fashionable to support/espouse. I've said it many times, including on this forum, but extremist views from either end of the spectrum, for me, are often for those who are deeply unhappy with their own failings in life and therefore, given the opportunity, will latch on to anything that sounds remotely plausible or acceptable and use it to justify extreme action to fill that void in themselves.

Story today about a rape victim who is taking a Brighton Rape Crisis centre to court because they allow Trans men into their meetings. This charity paid for by the taxpayer of course says that is fine. Well I don't men can also be rape victims whether they are gay / trans or whatever however commonsense says you should keep these groups apart. Why on earth they can't have separate meetings... Many men get off on the power trip that comes with rape, at these meetings women no doubt will tell their story about what happened, meanwhile some bloke could be sitting there enjoying it. Certainly, I agree... well dependent on why this happened of course. I'm 'assuming' it may have been linked to previous efforts to shut him down.. the separate point really was that the frankly weird reaction to the Oscars assault (it 'somehow' seemed to get lots of people coming out in support of the attacker) creates a perfect storm where people feel justified to attacks comedians for jokes. While word can sometimes lead to violence (see: my local) it's the last thing that should ever be encouraged. Rightmminded final paragraph too. It's always those who fall short in life, left or right that drift to extremes. They feel entitled and that 'normies' don't get it, so seek out those with the same or likely more pronounced outlooks to legitimise their own failed outlook. It's unfortunate, because it reflects on others of similar concerns or creeds who manage to get on with life just fine. I've always said that 'take as you find' is all you need. Black or white, Arthur or Martha, left or right, if someone is a decent and fair person it's as quickly apparent as if they're anything but. Often the more politically partisan someone becomes, the more you lose the person and are just left with a useless collection of virus like talking points in their place. It benefits no-one.

Edited by Badger11 (04 May 2022 1.05pm) Edited by Badger11 (04 May 2022 1.06pm) I do think this might be a bit alarmist (the Daily Mail way), in that if someone is a genuine victim of sexual assault, it's unfair to automatically assume that they might be a secret sexual predator getting off on rape stories. I think we have to have a balance of probability and support people if they feel they need it and something terrible has happened to them. I get your point though, that in these settings people need to be made to feel comfortable and whatever best achieves that should be the way forward. Individual support groups should make their own decisions on that. So if that's through separate or the same groups, whatever those in the groups feel comfortable with. I agree that we are in a weird time where womens spaces are being encroached upon by left and right alike. I read something the other day as result of the potential US abortion changes that said it's curious that in American a man can become a woman, but a woman will soon be allowed much less less control over her own body. Pause for thought.
