But at the same time let's not have more of an issue with a celebrity giving the middle finger, than Putins meat grinder of women and children.

I get how ridiculous celebrity contributions can often be, but with the Russia invasion we also see the cowardice from the other perspective of people scared of Putin not getting his way. This lot are lot deserving of each other in my view.

The trouble is that these celebrities have an opinion on absolutely everything and it’s almost always entirely predictable.
There’s an element of Monty Python to all this - and now over to Reg Varney for his view on the exchange rate mechanism and then to Kathy Kirby and Harry Worth who will talk about the Vietnam War.
Why are we supposed to care what they think about anything?

Certainly, I agree. They are in a way a human facet of the commercialisation dynamic. They latch onto what is the opportune view or take of the moment. I'm not saying that we should take them seriously, unless they act upon their supposed or actual conviction.

My point is that holding 'any' apparently strident or heart felt view that isn't actioned in any meaningful way is no better that this. And also that in the bigger picture what a celebrity thinks about this or that is most often still less relevant than the rights or wrongs of the issue at hand.

To temper criticism of a publicity-seeking gesture by 'reminding' us of the atrocities currently being committed by Putin's Russian army is ridiculous.

What is the point of them? At best, they show your peers what a great person you are. At worst they are meant to remind the general public of how bad Putin is. How insulting, particularly in a week when over 100,000 British people have opened their doors to Ukrainians.

Just as there is a place for politics, there is a place for sport.

While it won't always be possible we should, as best as we can, try to separate both.

Despite some of the words some political sides use, the actual reality it that the more political something becomes the more exclusionary it also becomes.

In my view the fact that this still needs to be said is evidence of the regressive path society has taken.

It was an interesting point that boxing has avoided getting involved in any of this and exists in its own little bubble, with no-one really expecting it to take a view this way or that on anything. I certainly wouldn't say that's a bad idea by any means, but that it's understood, whereas football is more tribal on multiple fronts and as such telling people they shouldn't express what could be deemed a political opinion is something they will certainly get behind... until it's theirs!

the whole homophobia versus tolerance debate.

More politics getting in and ruining football.

its getting seriously boring & tedious.

What other people do with their underpants is none of my business.....the only Balls & scoring i want to hear about is into the back of the net at the Amex. And the Seagulls losing again.

what will be the next political Crusade we will be subjected to ? whether or not older Women are entitled to IVF on the NHS ?

Geoff Stelling waving a little flag on Sky sports ? test-tube symbols being paraded across the big screen at the stadium ?

Gary Linekar frowning , removing his spectacles and telling us all the new Runway would be better at Heathrow, not Gatwick.

I suppose Joshua wanting people only to shop in black owned shops might fall into that very catergory.

Interesting point. I think Eubank is against all of that and said basically people need to work harder - or something similar. So boxers have given opinions alright. When I think of Mohammad Ali, he had plenty to say - we've just largely forgotten.

i just tuned into a match and got a boring lecture in inclusivity & the Rainbow laces.

Boring

i don't care ( actually i do care ....i want Gary Linekar to feckoff )
---------------------------------------

can i encourage whoever is behind that Political crusade to target the pockets of Homophobia that exist within our society. I can easily identify 3 or 4 of them , but would get into trouble if i pointed the finger. Certainly some religious enclaves are profoundly homophobic....not football fans.

Football Fans are large in number, but no more prejudiced than the average Joe.
