Has the US government actually bought millions of monkey pox vaccines? Forgetting the hyperbole of the alleged creation and spread of this latest virus, this is a statement of fact, which if true, means big pharma are yet again leading the world in sucking more money out of the economy of a major country and you just know how we love to play follow our leader in this country.

As far as I'm aware, there is no such thing as a mass market monkey pox specific vaccine. Smallpox vaccines are believed to be up to 85% effective against monkeypox, so it's those that are being ordered.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said in response to questions on Sunday that it would make the recommendation in a risk assessment to be published on Monday. Any vaccination drive would use the existing smallpox jab as there is no approved monkeypox inoculation and would mean immunising close contacts of confirmed monkeypox patients.

Smallpox immunity has been shown to offer some cross-protection against monkeypox. Smallpox was declared eradicated in 1980, but vaccine stockpiles have been maintained to hedge against a possible resurgence.

Yes I know, but they are clearly not purchasing it to tackle smallpox so the point remains, are they buying a shed load of smallpox vaccine to tackle a small outbreak of monkey pox and if so is this just a knee jerk reaction and waste of money or a valid approach given the limited infectious nature of it.

And a great opportunity for those in the know in the cabinet to get on the horse and make a tidy sum, without having to steal it this time! Insider trading perhaps, but not changing the name of your company"-dog foods are us", to "dog foods and ppe are us", overnight and with tens of millions of tax payer money going through the account! Whats not to like? Anyone seen the member for medway today or is he buying up shares I wonder with that excess lolly sloshing about in his pockets?

Russia is winning and Russia were always wining and the west won’t allow the Ukranian regime to talk to the Russians about a peace deal.

At the same time anyone who points this out is a “Putin apologist”

Meanwhile social media is covered with videos of Ukrainian nazis being “rescued” into the hands of Russians and Ukrainian civilians speaking out about what happened to civilians under the Ukrainians in Donbas.

I will never forget ignorance that could be have been avoided by a few internet searches.

I read it.

My criticism of the vaccines has mainly centred on governmental policy over compulsion rather than the safety of the vaccines....though I have highlighted issues I've had with both the vaccine companies and with media being restricted on the issue....Russell Brand has been very good on reporting this issue I think.

Because trials seem to end up providing different conclusions and always come with the worry that those conclusions are more about who is funding them than independent medical ethics I've kind of given up commenting on it.

Personally I'm leaving all that stuff to institutions I trust like the BMJ......I think I have more trust in their assessments than say Public health England or SAGE.

I was very worried at the start of this pandemic but after the initial results told us the nature of the virus I went with natural immunity once the vaccines came out considering my age....I don't deny that was a small risk, but I preferred it over a beta vaccine. It was a 60/40 decision for me as I do have underlying conditions.

I think that risk assessment changes the older someone is and/or the individual strength of their immune system. I've always said I'll never criticise someone for taking responsibility for their own health decisions. Ultimately every adult has to make those personal risk assessments.

In terms of the economic response.....I'm very very critical. We are seeing the inflation results of it now with the Ukraine being the cherry on top.

In exactly what way do you think the "west" will be controlling what Ukraine can, or cannot, do?

Who speaks for the "west" and on what basis do they control Ukraine?
