Transfers can take place at any time, can't they?

If players have been released then yes but otherwise here's what the PL itself says:

Yep. Waking up thinking we beat the Mancs, followed by crap, no more footy till august. Doesn't help that it looks like the friendlies are the other side of the world!

Sorry, I'm confused. The linked article lists a number of transfers that have already taken place, including the striker that Man City have signed. They didn't have to wait until 10 June to sign him.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Maybe it's 'Pledged to sign'? Is there a subtle difference? Don't know but it's a thought.

The transfers are all subject to completion of the regulatory processes with the registration of the player officially becoming effective on the 1st July. see, for example the player being transferred from Arsenal to Stuttgart.

in other cases the club statement says the transfer will become effective on 1st July or when the player's contract with his current club expires.

Some statements don't say anything but the regulations will still apply (perhaps excepting the transfer to the USA league).

PS. Haaland's transfer to Man City expressly states that it is a transfer 'in principle' - in other words it isn't yet effective.

OK...so back to your original comment...you don't need to wait (I'm)patiently for the transfer window to open because deals can be - and are being done - in advance of that window.

Hold your breath and bask in the joy of a fast approaching World Cup. My beloved NZ face Costa Rica soon in a finals play-off and my fingers are crossed. And England have some great players ready to go too. And then the new season is just over the hill. What gets me is that we are great at knobbling Man City but still they keep winning!

Indeed! We gave Liverpool 6 points and the Citizens just 1 and still the Scousers couldn't win the league!

That made me chuckle . . .

No. I need my annual break from football and Palace. Come August I will be keyed up and ready to go again, but for now I can enjoy stress free weekends for a couple of months. My enthusiasm would wane if it was football all year round.

I agree, the friendlies announced so far may be great for our Antipodean friends but out of reach for most of us.
