Then we are going to have to agree to disagree.

Sanctions are indeed applied to countries, corporations, individuals etc., as on ongoing fight against money laundering and financial crime in general.

So, stripping away sanctions and economic support for Ukraine, what is the solution given that you don't believe those actions to be effective ?

I think Orban's approach is the least worse option out of a number of bad options.

I will keep it short, as I've made this point many times, this war has been the result of disastrous policy towards Russia over roughly twenty-thirty years. That isn't support for Putin's bad regime but a reflection of power dynamics and what's most effective for future peace. The likelihood of anything positive emerging here is very low. When I'm given a bad hand in poker I don't bet the house....but we have and I can't support that as the best option when it was avoidable.

The approach to this war should have been humanitarian aid and a negotiated UN administrated settlement that actually reflects the actual border dispute in East and South Ukraine as in reality there has been a civil war there since 2014.

Instead we have decided to embark on an 'all or nothing' worldwide cold war that cements China and Russia together and threatens most of the poor in the world with hunger and us with many more in poverty.

Yes, that's exactly what they are. I worked in the banking industry for over 40 years so I have seen this in action.

You seem to be confusing freezing assets with stealing them.

As my analogy pointed out, I regard the difference as little more than semantics.

Go against Putin in Russia and you'll lose more than your money. I don't particularly care about Abramovic or Chelsea.

All he had to do was to be brave and disown his crony Putin and use his vast fortune to do some good in the world. I doubt if he would be unhappy if excluded from his mother country.

Russia's (in other words, Putin's) invasion of Ukraine is disgusting and brutal - it cannot be condoned.

I agree there are any worthy targets for sanctions, not just Abramovich. I guess starting a war is considered a greater crime than murdering a journalist.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Without a doubt.

I can't say I agree with the governments action, but the rich perpetually steal from the poor and that's certainly true in Abramovic's case too. So forgive me if I'm not too upset about him facing what he subjected others to.
