Junior Sambia is Montpellier's RB who's contract is running out this summer so available on a free. IMO we really need an upgrade on Ward/Clyne and he works as at least a stop-gap.

Luka and Kouyate going, the former for 3.5 mill releases some finances.

O'Brien has a 10-12mill release clause and looks to be a battling box to box midfielder in the McArthur/Gallagher mold.

Doucoure is, I believe a more holding midfielder, very comparable to Kouyate and is widely reported to be available for 15mill.

We are linked with Dennis up front but I don't see him as an upgrade on what we have.

I think Johnstone will sign on a free but I do not think he will replace Guiata immediately. This will free up the sale of Butland to Rangers. Say 2mill (ish). So 5.5mill in and we can sign three players in positions we need for 27million, an outlay of 22.2 million which is good value.

Lewis O'Brien is high on Leeds's wish list and since he has come up through the ranks at Huddersfield and his one loan spell was at nearby Bradford may well choose to move local now that Leeds have secured another PL season. A lot may depend on how much the PV factor might tempt him to Palace instead.

I think any player should be wary about signing for Leeds.

They lose Phillips and Raphinha they are in deep trouble.

It's ok having the transfer money but you then got to try and attract players without the team now having the star players.

Not mention clubs will up the fees knowing you have money to spend

Gallagher's place next year could easily be determined by his play with England in the next few days. If he excels, Tuchel might be impressed enough to consider playing him often.

If he doesn't receive much playing time, Tuchel (and Southgate) might decide he should be on loan to a PL club where he'll play regularly. Palace would be a good landing place again because we can help Chelsea by taking a few points from their competitors.

I’ve just got a feeling that Gallagher will be at Palace season. Either loan or £40m signing.

Too much competition at Chelsea and a World Cup season. He’s still so young that he could have two blinding seasons at Palace and then get snapped up by a Man City/Liverpool type, as Grealish has done. At his age he knows he should be playing every week to keep improving. He’ll become stale on the Chelsea bench.

Hopefully his treatment from Chelsea for the semi final and him witnessing the corporate vs community atmosphere at Wembley could help sway him.

I think Eze is nearer following Grealish than Connor.
But I also agree re Gallagher. His on steroids style may not work alongside Mount. So many players over the years have performed at one club, moved and disappeared
At Palace he has been given his head and how that has worked. Chelsea I suspect will reign him in.

'Bang average' more commonly is defined as bad. Even when people say, average...what they mean isn't actually average...it's bad.

PS. I'd have McArthur in my team over Ward-Prowse any day.

I accept that language evolves, but the word 'average' is a strictly-defined arithmetical term. If you rate a player as 'average', then you are (effectively) placing him right in the middle amongst his peers. There will therefore be (as near as damn it) as many players who are 'better' than him as are 'worse' than him. If people use the word incorrectly, that is merely another example of the lack of numeracy that perpetuates in society.

I grant you that comparative terms have tended to devalue in recent times. My theory is that this is due to an inflated sense of entitlement and is a consequence of the escalation of the 'feedback culture'. As an example: when I started work back in the 1970s, the word 'acceptable' meant....err.... something that was good, fine, nothing wrong with it, just the job. Now, however, 'acceptable' has somehow come to mean 'not really good enough'.

It’s the midfield that needs overhauling, without Gallagher we don’t have a press to force the opposition into mistakes. So 2 and maybe 3 midfielders to strengthen this area. One thing for sure is there will be more comings and goings all over the park.

Media again reporting we are after Joe Aribo. No idea if he is any good, in Dougie we trust.
