England have a dreadful history with Managers.
Ramsay should have been allowed to stay on as should Robson.
Clough - what a bit of fun that would have been.
Venables for all of his "deals on the side" was right up there in terms of talent - gone.
Hoddle was great - one silly comment - gone.
Harry would have been a good National Manager - deals on the side - never got a look in.
Those that choose the man for the job seem a little lacking in football knowledge.
Southgate has done well but should have done better - he needs to stay on but keep him away from tactical matters!

Could it be that we're just feckin stupid when it comes to assessing them...?

I'm no fan of Southgate, but if you Look at the numbers, it's hard to argue against him; a Final and Semi final in our last 2 major tournaments is better than any manager I can remember.
He's refreshed the national game, and injected pace, youth and opportunity into the team. He's made it clear that form gets you in the door and remwards good performances - everthing that's been lacking since 1998!

It's when you look at the style of play and those opponents that we've played, that his looks less impressive. I don't actually think huge amount has changed on the pitch. We still struggle to break teams down in the final third and are still relying on the odd player to get us through games (without Sterling last Euros how far would we have got?)
If you look at The last 2 tournaments, the Euros in particular, We got lucky with the draws, and, Germany aside, avoided the big names. Saying that, right Up until half time of the final, his Tactics were spot on throughout the tournament... and its not even like he played the same 11 each time. It was only when Plan A needed changing(against the first top quality opposition - coincidence?) that it all fell apart.

Looking back at those 2 tournaments, we've blatantly improved. We actually looked good to watch at times in the last one. Is he still improving?

Look, I don't like him and I think he's well overachieved, but to get rid now after an experimental League of nations game in a World Cup year is crazy talk.

But he asked people not to racially abuse his players, so how can he possibly be good!?!

Comments like that contribute to why racism still exists. You are a stirrer of a pot that doesn’t need to be stirred.

Ask yourself how England would do with Conte, Tuchel, Klopp or Pep and you have your answer about Southgate. Southgate is not a winning manager - even if has the best players. He just doesn't have the pedigree.

This is like us signing a player and saying well he's not Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Kroos or Modric, so there's your answer.

If we're going to pretend that unless you're top 5 in the world at something, you're rubbish, it's a pretty pointless conversation.

We had Capello who was decorated as anything in club football and he was woeful at International level - considerably worse than Southgate, for example.

I don't love Southgate, and his limitations are quite obvious to see, but I also think to deny the good job he's done over the past few years is silly.

I'd suggest it's people who get their back up about an anti-racism gestures and consider positions like being against racism as WOKE, but that's just me.

I think the team is the best it's been since I can basically remember but I find it impossible to ignore the madness of the subs v Italy. A real 'lost it' moment in my opinion. However, England undoubtedly better with Southgate than Roy or Capello.

Bowen and maybe Walker turned up to play but the rest didn't. They got what they deserved. End of our domestic season and their minds are already on their hols. Southgate could have used the game as an opportunity to give more of our newbies a run out. I hope he does next week. Who cares about the Mickey Mouse tournament anyway?

In reality, no body...but if he treats it as a trial game for youngsters/untrieds you just know that there will be screams about that from some quarters

He hasn't done too bad a job in comparison to many of those before him. In reality, he is England's second best manager, getting us to the European Championship final for the first time. Only Alf Ramsey has achieved more success for England.

As for taking the knee, maybe those booing are not booing the players, but booing the taking of the knee, which, in spite of Southgate's protestations, is widely viewed to be tied with the BLM movement, a political organisation which demands for the police to be defunded.

In other words, taking the knee is seen by many to be a political statement. Politics should be kept out of football. Southgate should just concentrate on the football side of things and not debate subjects which are not related to the team and how they play.

Racism is a problem, but nowhere near as big a problem as some like to portray.

Football is supposed to be entertainment, and should be treated as such, not to be used to display pointless virtue signalling.

Correct. Lets kick Politics out of Sport.
