Palace look very carefully at a player's character and whether or not (s)he would fit in with the rest of the squad and buy into the club's ethos. I wouldn't be surprised if Bale failed the test. You only have to look at Manure to see what happens when egos clash and self-interest dominates etc.

Completely agree with all of this, though I would note that I know nothing personally about Bale's character and anything I think I know is little more than conjecture.

If - and it's a massive if - Freedman, Parish, and Vieira somehow decided they were interested in him and that he was made of the right stuff for Palace, though all of that happening seems highly unlikely, I'd be for it for one reason and one reason only. It'd be a statement of ambition with comparatively low risk.

The simple facts are that 1. Signing Bale would put us on the map and would be a statement of intent other players we might want to sign in the longer term would surely hear. And 2. Bale's next contract will be short, signed mainly with the purpose of getting him through a World Cup season. So whatever the cost for one season, the club that gets him is unlikely to be burdened with significant costs for the long haul.

Do I desperately want Bale at Palace? No. Would it be kind of exciting to sign him? Yes. In Vieira and Dougie I trust.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

RIkz makes a valid comment
I'd take him on the condition he pays us, not sure what the going rate is but can't imagine it being cheap having a premier league club keep you match fit so you can go to a world cup.

Thoughts
Noting that Martin Kelly was listed on the website as an under 23 player his paying CPFC for exposure could start at U23.
I assume that CPFC does feed academy (and perhaps first team players, and can arrange accommodation. He should be wealthy enough to give £1,000.00 per week.
A few U23 wins, substitutions (as an impact sub), and some first team starts would give him the needed limelight.
There is the deal - all he has to do is convince PV, SP, and DF that he can contribute.

I fear some N&P crossfire has spread to 'Palace Talk' now

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Long barge pole please. I’ll go as far to say I’m more pleased Ayew has renewed for a year. It’s about attitude - see comments above.

Many Thanks, you seem like a balanced and fair person, politically and otherwise. Try to hold onto that in these rough seas .

As a club we should be proud of this.

Since 2010 (and probably before) the squad seems to be fairly united. You rarely hear of player unrest at Palace and for a lower half side togetherness is vital. Sure we get the annual Zaha wants to leave story but you don't hear our players slagging him off to the press.

I think this ethos may also help us signing players, who wants to join a club with big time charlies throwing their weight around. I think that is what has happened at Manure and has affected AWB's form.

So Bale is not worth the agro although I doubt he would come to us anyway. Newcastle or Everton seem the club for him?

I mean, the club isn't interested so it's all irrelevant but to play the game:

Olise/Zaha/Ayew/Edouard/Schlupp/Rak-Sakyi

We don't have enough space in the team to justify a 6 figure salary on a 32 year old with a very questionable injury history. Olise and Edouard in particular need substantial minutes this season to develop - Bale would completely block them.

Albeit we do seem to have many keen golfers in the side that I'm sure he'd be happy to spend a Sunday with.

I don't think we'll spend very big this summer, and it'll all go on midfield.

26th January 2010 - Enter Administration
2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

I tend to agree, especially as the contracts of 10 outfield players (11 if Kouyate signs an extension) plus all 3 keepers expire next summer. We will need to replace some of them even if others get further extensions. Hopefully one or two from the Academy might be ready to be squad players by then.
