How do you know?

If he was offered a new contact while still on an existing contract at a lower level he would be entitled to a free transfer, so as all the salary websites say 120k, and they are supplied by the agents i think its fair to say he is, unless you know better

It remains a mystery why his contract was extended, he's done nothing since and we don't need the cover.
Could have had him off the books, hopefully with a small transfer fee, and the saving in wages. The club is definitely at fault in regards to retaining his services. Poor judgement.

It was a poor decision to extend, but I can see why SP/DF did it. But in fairness, he was the starting striker across the back half of that season. Scored a couple of goals and looked like he was getting his mojo back.

Like all of us, hoping he might get back to Villa Benteke. And the fact that its not easy to replace a striker.

Basically, yes I do.
Let's consider his qualities as I see them (matter of opinion of course):
1) His pressing and movement cause the opposition CBs problems and creates space for other players.
2) He regularly makes timely runs into the box to be where the ball will be when delivered. Yes often, a defender will get there first or challenge him sufficiently to cause his shot to be saved or diverted wide, but he gets there time and time again. With more practice he'll start getting there first or get a shot away before the defender can get to him.
3) He can score ugly goals (think Wolves away).
4) He is good with his head
He is improving all the time and IMO shows that he has what it takes to succeed in the PL as a striker. The next two seasons will determine whether he proves that to be the case.

Also, when compared to the rest of our strike force last season, his minutes per goal is only bettered by Zaha and if you exclude Zaha's penalties and focus just on goals in open play/other set pieces, it is the best.

Finally, if we look at central strikers in the other PL teams (excluding the Big Six because we don't have their kind of money to splash out on strikers) the only three central strikers that would interest me from the the rest are Vardy (who won't go on much longer), Watkins who is too expensive, and Toney who we were stupid not to pick up when we had the chance when he was playing for Peterborough.

Okay, that's fair enough. Happy to agree to disagree.

I don't know any better but the point that I was making was neither does the poster but it is highly unlikely that he is still on the same salary level that he came here on

After the points i raised i think it is a certainty he is still on 120k a week

I'm afraid that your points were a load of testicles as whilst that may be law in Spain it certainly isn't in the UK

the Lanzo Tekkers is on £120k a week argument because a website says so has been going on for 2 years now so best to just ignore him.

Firstly, these websites often only update when they know a new number - a lot of Palace players were on older versions before renewals because the new ££ wasn't published (Macca, Luka and VG spring to mind - may have been updated now).

If he was offered less he could have left on a free - yes. But, we were in covid so wages were falling, he is settled in London, his last 5 years have been awful and he is now the wrong side of 30. IMHO essentially he wasn't offered a better alternative. Agents ensure you get a signing on fee for contract renewals so the need to move is reduced and has been for many years now.

I strongly suspect his wage is still very healthy, but i also think there is a greater element linked to games played and goals scored.

Maybe £80k a week and £40k linked to appearances and goals. Based on last season he probably got nearer £90k to £100k per week.

Whether Benteke is on 120 / 100 / 80 / 50 or 30 or 5k a week, that sum is still far too much for a player who has done nothing for four seasons, excepting a late run last season when, surprise surprise, his contract was due to expire. And at the end of the season under a manager who was leaving and games were winding down.
Most notable is his lack of game time under Vieira, which should tell us everything we need to know.

I don't suppose that you can supply a link to that rule as I've looked and can't find anything
