Your dad was absolutely right cryrst.

I used to think there was a bloke in the factory sitting at a table putting salt from a cruet set into those little squares of blue paper and carefully shaping the paper into a bag before dropping each one into the pack of (Smiths) [Link] No flavours in those days, and as far as I recall Smiths were the only brand available.

I still prefer salted crisps today, but if I'm feeling masochistic I might risk salt and vinegar.

Cadbury's Whole Nut is my go to chocolate.

After posting this, my idle curiosity got the better of me and I found this very brief piece about how Mr Smith kicked off the potato snack industry.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Indeed, Palace Old Geezer.

Back in the day, what's now called 'Salt 'n' Shake' crisps were just called....'crisps'! Then 'they' invented a way to get the salt to stick to the crisps rather than it all falling to the bottom of the packet; hence 'ready salted' crisps.

Then along came a succession of flavoured crisps, all of which were pre-salted, but for some reason plain, pre-salted crisps continued to be (and still continue to be) called 'ready salted'.

Is chocolate and and are crisps bought as singles more expensive than in previous decades or does it just seem that way when you know how much cheaper they are in the supermarkets? One bar of chocolate the same price as 4 in the supermarket. Think pre current inflation prices. Sweet shops are now convenience or fags/vape/alcoholics shops. Or another takeaway, until this winter.

Not very adventurous but I find it hard to disgree with your choices . The missionary position of junk food choices.

I remember when a few crisp flavours became available .
basically salt n vinegar, cheese n onion & then along came 'smoky bacon' flavour.
My dad was like a caveman finding a television.
He was mad for smoky bacon crisps for years

Cheese and onion or whatever they call them Kettle Chips. Can’t leave the little feckers alone. Little shards of joy.

There’s another brand that do a chorizo flavour or Serrano ham or something. Meant to be excellent.

Pipers do chorizo crisps which cause a right old shemozzle in my local. They keep the wife happy while I'm outside for a fag so she's on about 20 bags a night.
